I look at it on a business by business case. Target is really bad about returns, so we favor Wal-Mart, Kohl's, and J.C. Penney's over Target. I try to give business to small-business owners when possible. . . but don't do business anywhere that feels shady, disrespectful, or unusually rigid. This goes for mom and pop's or multinational corporations. I also don't argue with people who can't make decisions anyway. . . let me talk to the boss.

Would you rather they raise prices across the board then instead? With technology and prices changing rapidly, they must take action to reduce their loss.

Nope. . . I'd rather shop at Amazon.com and pay no taxes and no shipping.
I shop by model number instead of going in to a store, seeing their selection, and choosing among those. I find the best product for my needs. Then I do some online investigation. Whoever has the best combination of price, service, return policy, etc. gets my business. Depending on the product and use, I might pay a little more to have a more favorable return policy. . . if I can't guarantee I got the right one until I get it home and test it. If it might take two or three times to get the right one, I'll give a little edge to the closest store.
Obviously, this is restricted to items over about $50. I don't research toothpaste online.

No, I would rather shop elsewhere where the prices are the same or lower and not have a usury restocking fee.
I think it's fair to say that after reading FrankJ's post, he was shafted by this company. I commend FrankJ for his restraint, and I applaud his turning the merchant's jack over to charity, at his expense.
Unfortunately, there a contingency present that has posted they don't believe what he is writing. That's nothing but cheap shots, taken by small people. I have never known FrankJ to lie in all the writings he has made here, and I have no reason to believe he is lying now. To those casting aspersions of FrankJ having shoplifted the item, all I can say to them is; puuuuulease.
Thank you, and my best to you and your replacement jack bought at Wal*Mart, FrankJ.
I have a sweet tender nature, however I enjoy sharing my thoughts and opinions.

I've bought quite a bit online also, but never anything large/big-ticket. Who pays the shipping if you had a problem with it and had to send it back?

Oh, puleeeeeeeeeze! Give me a break! Not a single person here cast "aspersions" on Frank! Every single person CLEARLY stated that they were not talking about Frank having "stolen" the item, but that that is what OTHER PEOPLE have been known to do.
That's not even twisting words . . . you're putting words in other's mouths! Talk about cheap shots. Go look in a mirror! Shame on you!

I think you meant to quote me. It all depends. . . some will do in-home service depending on the item. Some will send you the packaging to return the item for repair. Some will send you a replacement item and you can use its packaging to return it. Some you have to front the shipping costs. Some will let you take it to a store location (if they are "clicks-and-bricks") and return it. (Sometimes online deals aren't available in the stores.)
I just check all of that when it's a big ticket item.

I do a small percentage of my shopping on-line. I try to support the locals first, then it is a toss-up whether I go to the big box stores or buy on-line.
