Want to know what happened to the RV people that elected to stay in Florida last night, to dance with Fay. Last I read someone was playing cards and others were having a party.

Yes, I was playing cards, lol. It was reasonably quiet here, as expected. I never even deployed by jacks or brought the slide in. There was no reason to. A big tree fell over without damaging anything and the newscasters went crazy showing pictures of it, if that gives kind of an idea what a relative non-event the thing turned out to be in this area. I went over to the corner store for a minute, and a guy in a full body brace and a wheelchair was sitting out front watching the show. I was out today, and didn't spot any missing RV's from the day before. Looks like most decided to just stay put.

I was beginning to wonder about the Naples area since the center hovered so long, but then saw it take off up north. Heard from a friend a few minutes ago that a tornado touched down in Barefoot Bay, which is a very large mobile home community on the coast. That area can get just about as windy as it was here last night in ordinary rainstorms, and tornado watches aren't all that uncommon. Least, I don't think so. I was there for a while and there were a number of watches called.

Also heard some official from CA wanted to evacuate all the Ocala Forest, but the fulltimers basically ignored him and expect no trouble. I'm still watching it, mainly just because it's behavior is so unusual. But otherwise, very quiet now.

The storm was not bad where I live in in North Fort myers. I think South West Florida was luckey this time. Did find a leak in my coachs skylight in the shower which I'll fix after I take the shutters off the house.

We stayed in Clermont & the storm stayed south. Our friends in Ft. Laud. ran to Titusville. Turned out to be a bad choice. They joined us here, we went out to dinner & came home & played cards! Has anyone heard anything about the "other" one still out in the Atlantic. There were 2 last week weren't there?

While I am sure these are all accurate accounts of their experience, no one should be lulled into thinking that this storm is not a serious threat to property and life. Even sustained winds of 45 mph over a 12-16 hour period along with 8-12 inches of rain can cause much harm. I have survived a hurricane which was considered a cat 1. It was no fun.

Amen! We had a blast here in the Panhandle last evening, just one of the outer bands of the storm, and it was pretty scary. Another waterspout was spotted on the Gulf side of St George island, so we were under a tornado warning for a bit. Fay is expected to swing our way Friday/Saturday, and no-one yet is committing to what kind of weather we will have. I grew up in Kansas/Missouri, so I have MUCH respect (and fear) for tornados. Sitting in a B+ 100 feet from the Gulf, you can believe I'm paying attention, and I'm ready to run in a moment!

We live in New Smyrna Beach (Central FL) and right now Fay is stalled just south of us off of the coast at the Cape. Last night brought a lot of high wind, squalls and about 3-5" of rain. I am draining the pool down again today as the storm is expected to sit off of the coast all day and continue with up to 50mph gusts and 10" of rain all total. It is supposed to gain strength, become a Cat 1 hurricane and then head right through our area or the county just north of us.

We moved the RV out from under the oaks yesterday and have it right up against the house. Last weekend, I got up on the roof and caulked a few suspicious areas that I think were the cause of 3 very minor leaks during a terrible storm with high winds while traveling 4th of July. So far, so good--no leaks. We will be headed out for some driveway camping if we loose power!

The situation in North Florida (Jax) has been horrendous since Thursday afternoon. We are getting pummeled by wind and rain constantly now. Gusts last night to 60 mph. Major power outages and street flooding this morning and it is not over yet. No one should take these storms lightly. Melbourne had 25 inches of rain. This storm has moved so slow and stalled so many times it is causing havoc here. When it emerges in the gulf it could be even more serious.

fla-gypsy, we are keeping our fingers crossed for all you folks in the Sunshine. Do hope you fair OK and no one gets hurt. Material things can be replaced if necessary. In the town from which I retired they had floods 6 times this year. Not the high winds but a lot of folks with no where to go anymore due to getting worked over by the insurance and some of FEMA. Good Luck down there.
