Is it just me or are the current ironing board style table bottoms on most pop up tables really lame?!? I like the diner style chrome poles that were in campers of the past!

Is this typical? It seems only Jayco uses the chrome poles occasionally.

I think the reason they use the ironing board style table is so you can use it outside. My DH likes that style best. But I would never dream of using our table outside. Our TT had the chrome pole table and it could be a pain to set back up.

I agree with KFC. I think they do it so it can go out, but we don't do that, either. It can be a pain to move around inside (our PUP has two dinette areas, only 1 table), but the alternative styles seem even more of a pain to deal with. Fact of the matter is, our table mostly serves as a bed anyway - we only use it as a table when the weather is really, really crummy and we HAVE to eat inside.

We really like ours. Our floorplan is very restricted on space, so the table can be a real problem. We leave it outside almost all of the time, as we do everything pretty much except sleep and change clothes outside (weather permitting Our table goes out next to the outdoor shower and is used for washing dishes and washing hands and face 95% of the time. The original table top was particle board with laminate that didn't stand up to the water when used as a scullery table. I replaced it recently with a High Density Polyethelyne "cutting board" material from Tap plastics that works great for our use.

Our table, despite my best efforts, shows signs of breaking down because we move it inside and out every day we're camping. We use it a lot for food prep and outdoor cooking. At night, it becomes DS's bed. With so little room inside during the day, we don't want the table inside anyway.

I've done it for the other end of the PUP that didn't have a table to form the bed, so I'm about to do it on this end as well: cut some 1x8 or 1x12 lumber to form the bed supports instead of the table.

That way, I don't have to be shuffling the table back and forth which saves on wear and tear, and it's easy to stack and hide-away the five or so 1x8 boards during the day.

I will probably also be replacing the table-top material in the near future.
