Well I'm sending off a letter to the show superintendent to advise not providing chicken breasts 'on the bone' at the concession stand at the the show site. It is the first time I've seen this offered.
I was in the Group Ring and my dog made a dash to the fencing around it and snatched a chicken bone on the ground. I immediately went in for the retraction and was met with a determined little dog to hang on to that bone.
Afraid he would choke I did get a little heavy handed to get it and was now met with a VERY determined behavior. All this and trying my best not to let the judge see it all happening!.
Ringside it looked like he was trying to chew my hand off and a ringside observer thought he was trying to bite me and she made the comment about him being vicious. I finally got the bone out and purposely threw it in her direction to show her what was 'really' going on.
Dog shows do allow visitors to attend shows.I beleive this is how a chicken bone got to be left ringside. A dog person would NEVER throw chicken bones around the ring.
Note to self: Read what's on the menu at the concession stands and be on the look up for bones if they offer chicken breasts!!

Very poor judgement of part of show organizers. Non 'dog-people' just don't realize the danger in 'bones'.

Were did your dog place after that?
I have a hunting breed (IE "VERY" good nose).
Had a spectator sitting right at the corner with a "BBQ rib meal".
It even smelled good to me.
Judge asked me to do a down and back to that corner.
The down was "BEEE-U-TEE-FULL"
On the back my dog was running with his head turned around and body side ways trying to get back to that corner.
After that terible show of handling skills the judge noticed and asked the spectator to move.
YA THINK!!!
Some time people just don't think.

While camping this weekend, we encountered a similar situation. A very determined Yorkie after finding a chicken leg bone(?) in the grass outside our campsite. Not blaming anyone, could have gotten there any way, (and looked like it had been there awhile), but just a reminder to be aware of your surroundings.

A very good reason to have a solid "spit!" command installed on your dog's hard drive.

Yup, IMHO that is one of the most important commands that all dogs should know.
I taught each and every one of my Danes had that same command. You'd say 'spit' and they couldn't get what was in the mouths out fast enough for you!
I never got around to teaching my new guys that. And I actually was thinking how I wished I had taken the time to teach him that during my struggle with him.

He was sooo ticked off at me for man handling him to save his little hinnie from choking he wouldn't even let me near his lead to adjust it for the down and back or for the go around either for that matter! Guess he thought I was going to go down his throat again.
We didn't place in the group.
I stand on my laurels that this is THE best excuse I've ever had for not placing in the group!

Wow. That's wrong on so many levels. Even if the offending party was not a "dog person," just exactly when did it become OK to throw your garbage on the ground in a public place? As far as rudeness goes, that has to be up there with conformation folks who let their dogs pee on the ring posts of the obedience rings !
One year at our local Responsible Dog Ownership Day event, I was doing a Rally and Obedience demo. We had a roped off area to serve as a "ring", and spectators crowded in on all sides. One little boy right up against the ropes had a hot dog. Emphasize HAD. This was a little tyke, maybe 3-4 years old. As we heeled past him, the little boy was leaning under the ropes. Without missing a beat, my dog snagged the hot dog, bun and all, and swallowed it in one bite, never breaking heel position!!!!
It all happened so fast I never had a chance to even think about telling him to "Leave It".. Admittedly, even if there had been time, there's a part of me that really enjoyed the "just desserts" of it all.
