the bottom of the support arms of my awning are sitting in a bracket and held in place by a detent clevis pin... this pin can be removed and the arms can be released from the bracket. The Mrs says that must be so that you can have the arms act as legs and rest on the ground. Is this correct? and if so what holds them standing?
Also: When using it with arms connected to trailer...the inner bar that becomes the top piece...is there supposed to be something that holds them in place?
I dont really know what type of awning i have...I think the sticker said Faulkner. It is the type that you lift up on the arms to clear the top holder as opposed to a flip lever to wind/unwind.

The arms are removeable at the bottom so you can put them in the "patio" position.
I use screw-in dog-leash anchors along with bungie cords to hold mine in the sand. Have'nt lost it yet.

Thats awesome...thanks for the link.
At this point here:
is there something that is supposed to hold the end of the rafter there? or is it just the tension of the roll?
in patio position...only one leg is set out..staked down...and rafters are placed into position.

Yes there is. Notice the little spring pad in the vertical support that snaps in place once you've pulled/extended the top support out to the end of the vertical support. (It's right below your hand in the picture.) To retract the top support, on the bottom side of the vertical support, you simply pull the little tab of the pad down so it releases the top support then you can slide it in. Make sense?

yes..makes sense. But...not my arm...not my awning... I'll have to take some pics of my pieces...as i dont remember seeing any type of spring to catch the rafter. My rafter is really just a square C with a couple holes in the sidewalls of the end. I dont remember if there were corresponding holes in the vertical arm to match those in the rafter.
I have a center rafter also...and thats a whole other set of questions. We opened this thing up for the 1st time this past weekend since we bought it Jan '07...thought we could just wing it to figure it out....that why i have all these questions.

FYI. In the Patio position (legs on the ground). Your awning will be much more stable, and able to handel wind better, without jerking the TT around so much. I patio mine at the beach, and use guy wire to steady it.

Guess what i found? No..besides the holes in the fabric...
Fabric is tearing in several places...but it is original...has the Faulkner tag right on the fabric.
But what i did find...more detent pins! And holes for them to go into:
The smaller bar is the rafter and the larger the arm. The pin goes thru both.
I even got the center rafter in place...but i do have another question....what is this "handle" on the center rafter???

oh yeah...and this handle on left...
which most awning directions say to lift to unlock the sliding bar...on mine is just a simple handle...the knob on right is the unlock...
