Planning next vacation in June 09. Will be going to Boston and on to Maine. We do not know much about this state and need help. What are the must see sites and CG recommendations. We will be in Maine appx 3 days but could stay longer if needed.

Acadia National Park, Baxter State Park, and Moosehead lake region are our favorites. If you only have 3 days and you haven't been here before see Acadia national park. It has rocky shore, beaches, freshwater ponds and lakes and carriage paths. There are small mountains and the views are fantastic. You can bike, hike, swim, fish, camp, EAT, and tour around and you can do it on a free shuttle from your campground.
That's my opinion as a Maine grown person.

The Bar Harbor/Acadia is absolutely wonderful, beautiful and extremely dog-friendly if you travel with a fur-friend. We spent a week there with 3 dogs last year and enjoyed especially the hike around Jordan Pond (and eating outside at the restaurant there!) The dogs were with us always and if we ate at a dog-friendly place, they were served a bowl of water and were made to feel welcome too. We have been to Moosehead Lake area with grandson in tow and also hiked there, went on a moose safari which was a blast, the boat ride in the lake and the sight-seeing plane ride. I wish we had hiked Katahdin--guess we will have to go back!!

There is a little campground where I grew up in Oxbow. It's about 20 miles south of Ashland. Here is the website. http://www.mysticacrescampground.com/
We will be going next summer. Lots to see.

In my opinion 3 days is not enough. We did 2 weeks last year and a month this year. I think you could easily spend the entire summer roaming about and still leave a lot unseen. I agree about Acadia if time is limited. A must see treasure.

Well, I assume you will be coming up the 95. Taking the costal route 1 is great - it take a bit of time to see but well worth it. Heading up to Baxter State Park is great and well worth the time to go and see.

You mentioned Boston: We were there for July 4. Consider Wompatuck State Park south of Boston as a base. Large, wooded sites; 20amp only; no on-site water, but water available throughout campground, dump station. About 8 miles to the Braintree T station for subway into Boston if you have a car (don't take your RV or tall vehicle --parking garage).
By the way: Those folks in that part of the country don't know sweet tea.
