picking up my first TT tomorrow, salesman says i need to buy some of their special toilet paper at first i thought he was joking but then i thought about it.
so it sounds like a good idea to get some, looking for any one to say that they don't use it and haven't had clog problems thats about all that would talk me out of it.
also wondering what kind of checmicals should be used to help it disolve if any, and what kind of foofy smell good stuff you put in the tank so it doesn't stink up the TT.

First off, welcome to the Open Road Forums and congratulations on your new travel trailer.
No you don't need to buy the expensive RV toilet paper. You can use any septic tank approved tissue. There are several out there on the market.
We use Scott 1-ply and have so for years with no problems.
Concerning chemicals, it's a matter of choice, there a tons of them out on the market. Personally we use Happy Camper - Odorless Holding Tank Treatment.
We treat our tanks with the "Happy Camper" chemical, a cup of powdered Calgon and an enzyme packet. That method has worked for us and we've never had any odor even when dumping and flushing.
The GEO Method is very popular as well.

Wal*Mart sells RV toilet paper and chemicals. You are going to get a lot of mixed answers on tp and chemicals. Many use Scott single ply and report no problems. Many use the GEO method of tank control, many use chemicals. I use rv paper and chems and have never had any problems.

We have always used the Thetford Campa-Chem tissue and the same brand for the pre-measured packets of RV holding tank deodorant from Wal-Mart. Never a problem, except one time in really hot weather we did have to put 2 packets in the toilet as the heat sometimes start things cooking. Just make sure you put a couple gallons of water in toilet after emptying and then put in the chemical. Also use a lot of water when flushing. We have a permanent site so are hooked up to the sewer so emptying is no problem. We try not to use any more paper than what is necessary, which I think helps keeps things flowing also. A little common sense goes a long way.

before noticing JFG was kind enough to include a hyperlink regarding GEO i googled it and found its putting 1 cup of water softner 1 cup of laundry soap and 2 gallons of water in the black tank.
corporate fire wall prevents me from viweing the hyperlink now that i noticed it so i'm assuming it would basically tell me the same thing.
summer temps >100 degrees are not uncommon were i live is this going to solve any odor problems as well? i've also been told to take any left over ice from the trip and dump it down the toilet before driving home which i plan on doing.

Save your money. Use enough water and you will not get the Pyramid of Death in your tank. Dump after camping with lots of water. I recommend a Flush King. Dedicated hose. You are then good to go.
If you are getting odor, then something isn't sealing tight enough on your toilet. Keep your fan off when flushing.

Use Quilted Northern 2 ply and very little to no chemicals, and have never had a problem. A good flush of the system with water is the key.

I use Scott. Guess that's the same as Scotts or Scott's.

Scott tissue here. Use it in the house and TT. No clogs whatsoever. Says right on the wrapper it is safe. Go price the "RV TP" vs Scott per roll. You'll go with Scott too.
