I get a little swaying when big trucks pass me or in side winds. Not a huge amount but enough to make my wife a "little nervous". I currently have a EZ Lift with a friction sway bar. Would switching to a Equalizer (which has the built in sway control) be worth switching to..both from the cost standpoint and piece of mind? Thanks for any advise.

I have a similar set up to yours, same TT. We have the equalizer hitch. It does a good job. I found my TT to be light on the tongue, so I load heavy on the front of the TT. I always travel with the water tank full (mine is forward of the axles) and it tows much better.

I prefer the Equalizer over the other hitches however I am not familiar with the EZ lift. It's easy to hook up and you don't have to remove the friction sway to back up. You can normally get the Equalizer hitch for around $300.

Good Luck.

I would try to do what the above poster has done before buying a new hitch. Load more towards the front and try to travel with a full freshwater tank. It's little things like those that may make a difference!

Also check that the tires are at the max pressure according to the sidewall. This will greatly help dampen sideways movement. Check the truck and trailer both.

I have the EZ lift. I spent one afternoon adjusting it and called the manufacturer too. I do not have any problems with mine. I would do like the others said and try adjusting it before you go and buy the equalizer. Good luck

I had the Equal-i-zer on my Jeep and Jayfeather. It took some fiddleing to get it really right but one of the biggest benifits came from changing the TV tires to ones with a higher load rating. After those changes, there was never a hint of sway under any conditions.

Are you sure it's actaully sway you're getting or just the normal pull/push of a big rig passing. If the hitch is correct, you'll still feel the truck but the whole rig will act in concert....sorta locked togheather.

I don't have enough miles on the new rig to comment on how well it works but I did go with a new Equal-i-zer.

First step is to maker sure you really have a problem, then check your tonque wt (I used 13%), and look at the TV tires....you may be getting sidewall flex. I went from a 105S load to a 110S load rating.

I would check the tongue weight as well. I haven't had any problems with my tt and tv towing and i do have the equalizer. When I first bought my boat and towing it 7 hrs back from dealer in destin fl the tongue weight was not adusted properly. That was one of the scariest moments driving my whole life. The boat would waggle behind me with just wind alone. When a trucker passed I was about a foot in the shoulder to prevent hitting the trucker. I pushed the boat forward about 8" and no more swaying.

Check your TT level as well, should be nose slightly down.

I have an Equilizer hitch with an Eagle 298BHS and a 3/4 Yukon for a TV. The first trip I took with it last fall was white-nuckles. Turns out I the nose on the TT was slightly high and I didn't transfer enough weight with the bars. After adjusting properly this spring it tows great.

Hello, I have the Equalizer hitch on my TT a 33' Forest River Ultralight about 7500lbs. I have towed several thousand miles this summer all over Alaska and it has done wonders I was a little worried at first it just seemed a little too easy to get everything set up right. I had to adjust the ball height one time and it was pretty much on the money. Good things about it are you don't have to unhook to back it up sharply, and you just hook it up and go. Man it seems too easy everytime I hook up. One bad thing is the set screw for the ball angle has had to be retightened several times. I go for easy everytime.

Sorry one more thing, I do not put any water in my unit unless I am dry camping, I like to be as light as possible. I would rather have a light trailer than 300lbs of water to use up my diesel fuel, why burn fuel when you don’t have too. I have had it super loaded though dry camping a few times and it didn’t make a difference in the ride it was just a little harder on the TV.
