Well i hoped it would never happen to me but it did. On the very first day of my holidays we pulled into a campsite (a double for friends we had coming) and i did not take enough time to survey the site. Most of the sites had two numbers posted on the same post but not the one I chose. I avoided the main post I could see but did not notice until it was too late that there was another post tucked near the trees and painted green to match. I hit the post on the side of my trailer and it actaully jumped right underneath my wheel well. In a fit of rage i had to chop the post down to even get my rig parked.
I have read many stories of other campers damaging their units and while I felt very bad for them I thanked god it wasn't me... It is a very terrible feeling.
I did enjoy the rest of my holidays and have calmed down considerably since the few minutes after it happened. I have learned my lesson and that is what i want to pass along.
"Take your time when you are getting where your going and once you get there. If there is someone behind you raring to go and you are backing in.. he can wait! Check your surroundings and make sure your spotter is on the same page as you." If someone else can avoid the damage by taking the same steps then that is a good news story. Trust me I never thought it would happen to me.
Good luck and good camping!
Question: Where does a guy get damage to the trailer body repaired? Autobody place or RV dealership? The hardwall is not damaged it is the aluminum below the hardwall near the fenders etc that has some damage.
Any thoughts would be great!

I know several in this area who have had damage done to their rv's and they've taken their's to an Auto Body shop in the area...In fact, it's the same one that the Dealership uses. Might check with an Autobody shop in your area. Sorry about your accident, hope you get it fixed up "like new".

Your RV dealer should be able to change that, mine is in the shop right now changing that and the whole back wall. Some one side swiped the rear corner of ours while on vacation 2 months ago.

Those things are lurking out there all the time. Insurance is good if you have some. After the first scratch/dent, the rest aren't so hard to take
At a campground that will remain nameless (Andersen Creek near Boston Bar) a power pole beside the campground road had a guy wire coming down at a slant to across the road. I decided to follow the road and went under the wire. The campground kid was standing there watching so I figured it would be ok. After I tore four feet off the corner of the trailer's roof on the wire I stopped and backed out tearing it some more making sure it was good and wrecked.
I asked the kid, "Why didn't you say anything?" He said, "Most people go around that across the lawn." (Thanks, kid!) Some duct tape fixed the corner of the roof till we got home, then I called the insurance company.
An agent came around and was happy to get the whole roof replaced if I wanted. It would not even have raised our premium. I got a sort of patch done instead as it wasn't worth the hassle of getting the roof done and have no trailer for who knows how long.
Since then, trees have jumped out and attacked us, the house eves-trough by the driveway lost a battle with the trailer when I was backing in, a big truck with a wide load banged the trailer's back right corner denting it some at the ferry terminal (Didn't see that until too late to report it, didn't feel anything) and I'm sure more adventures are out there to come.

I ran over one of those little posts with the left front tire of the truck while backing into a tight spot one night. It got wedged between the tire and front bumper at a bad angle and I had to turn the wheel side to side while pulling forward gently to get back over it without damaging the bumper. The truck came away unscathed, the post was laying flat and ground into the dirt when I got done, so I just backed over it and finished parking while the DW laughed. (she was supposed to be watching the FRONT since I knew where the back was and could see that part with the lights on the back of the trailer!!!)

My first camper {a Jayco alunimum side} was punctured by a tree branch about 4 feet above the right side trailer brake light. Hole was about the size of a nickel but did not go inside rig. Brought to shop and they said save time and money and install outside light with switch! Turned out to be a great idea, A light on the rear when I needed it.
