I watched the show twice, the second time was just to make sure it was as bad as I thought it was the first time I watched it.

Not much better than watching paint dry.

My favorite Driver is the Big Cheerful Polish fellow, he does his job and he does it well without hardly any complaints, as for Rick I would have showed him the door a long time ago.

I know what your saying, but if you have never drove over the road which I did for many years you have know idea what must be going through these drivers minds knowing that at any moment they could end up at the bottom of a frozen lake. If you ever get a chance watch the PBS made documentary on the man who first did this, he along with his 8 drivers did the same thing the only difference was there was no safety checks or sonar to tell them how thick the ice was they just took a chance and drove across the lakes when they froze over, in fact they installed plows on the front of their trucks and plowed their own roads open.

Did any of you watch the first season? Rick wasn't so bad then, but then the show went to his head, it seems.

Or...because the TV producers got a lot of email about the guy, they edit the program to play up his less-than-desirable qualities??

As someone else said, I think it takes a special sort of person to drive those roads, and yeah, "ego" probably helps???

Since I help Hubby with his trucking business, I'm well aware that MOST truckers are decent and professional people who would probably be too boring to show on TV.....LOL!!!

Rick should have been canned the first show. I really got tired of watching him. I hated to see Alex go down with the heart/lung condition. I also got tired of Hugh's bragging and "mouth". I was totally impressed with Erik. He performed as a professional.

what a embarassment they are to truckers and the industry.
How so?

under normal conditions i am sure the truckers work work hard as do most all truckers. what i mean is the ones that they film they act like idiots. like the one tonite thats driving naked because its 36 degrees out and talking about airing out his you know what. and than i guess tonite was the night for cursing thinking it makes them look cool. every sentence was getting beeped out. they make themselevs and represent their profession very bad.

I raise my glass to tonkatoys. I am a retired truck driver and all the drivers on that show except one are a poor example of that industry. The one exeption is Erik, he is sincere and not braggadociouse. The rest of them need to check their ego and their mouth when the camera is rolling. I'm glad to not be an
"Ice Road Trucker" if thats what it takes.
Marty, Retired 30 year truck driver
I see now. I've watched the show once or twice, but never really got into it.

I think what is happening is that when the truckers act like "normal" people, the footage is boring. They need weirdos to make the show "exciting". Who knows how many "normal" (i.e., "boring") hours of film they have to work with to find enough to fit into their show.

I would cringe if my field got a treatment like that show ("Scientists on the edge....."). Given the right edit job, I could see people decide that all scientists are wackos.

Never drove a truck and I'm sure if I did I would appreciate the show more, but for me it was really boring.

I couldn't believe they didn't even mention Alex at the end, not even to say how many loads he'd done. An up date on his condition would've been nice.

I got tired of Hugh's mouth too. That happened in the first season.

I was wishing Erik would've "won".
