Hello,
I put my HTT in a spot in the yard that is out of site/out of mind. Where I normally park the HTT, it is competely level and where I have it now it is not completely level. It is actually leaning toward the passenger side, not much but not level.
With a scare of a frost tonight, I thought I better get busy and winterize it ASAP.
When I just got done winterizing, I opened up the gray water and nothing came out, I did dump at least more than a cup into each drain, probably a 1/2 gallon between kitchen sink, bathroon sink and shower. I dumped a 1/2 gallon of the pink stuff in the toilet and when I opened up that I got some nasty brown and then pink.
Should I add some more RV anti-freeze until I have some come out of the grey water, or should I be save. Or since I am not level, it is probably on the passenger side and not on the driver side where the drain is. Or should I just be on the safe side and dump another 1/2 gallon or 1 gallon in each the grey and black tanks?
thanks in advance,
Dan

Some amount of liquid in the holding tanks is actually a good idea. I always advise that they should NEVER be left completely empty. As long as there is plenty of room for expansion when the water freezes no harm will be done. Make certain that all CONSTRICTED places like water lines either have antifreeze or are completely empty.
As for being out of level it will help assure that no water pools on the roof.

As long as the grey, or any tank is not full. You don't have a problem. As water freezes it expands, if there is room in the tank for it to expand. It won't hurt a thing.
You just have to get the water out of the water lines, and faucett seals, as well as the water pump, and seals.

The FW tank in mine wasn't properly supported from the factory and that sucker would expand and hold almost an extra 20 gallons. I'm quite certain if I left water in it (which I didn't) that a freeze wouldn't hurt it, just stretch it out some more...of course the cold might make it a wee bit more brittle but since it had stretched from the original problem there was a gallon or so I couldn't get out, no worries.

Parking the camper on unlevel ground will not bother it at all. When I park mine for the winter it is tipped to the right a little and I also crank the front up higher to let the water flow off the back as the snow melts. You did not mention that you pumped any antifreeze through the water pipes or pump. That needs to be done as the pump and pipes are what will freeze and break. The holding tanks will not break if they have a little water in them as there is room for expantion. Be sure to either empty the sink traps or pour antifreeze in them.

I put my camper sererely out-ot-level for winterizing. The process of getting her ready for winter. So much easier to flush the waster tanks if the trailer is tipped toward the drains. Tipped the other way and you'll not get all the stuff out of the tanks.

Thanks for all the advice. I did air out my city water connection and then added two gallons of the RV anti-freeze to the water holding tank. I closed the water heater value. I turned the pump on and turn on the kitchen sink until I saw the pink stuff and repeated that for the shower, bathroom sink, toilet and outside shower. Then I took a 1/2 gallon down the kitchen sink, bathroom sink and shower drain and then dumped 1/2 gallon down the toilet. A big warning for anyone who is new at this (like me), when I went to drain the city water connection, I didn't realize there was that much pressure, well the shirt got the worse of it. lol
I also disconnected my battery for the winter. Next year I will have to remember to "lean" towards the drains. Well, we did have frost here and a very cold 34 degrees. Brr, is it spring yet?

Did you pull the plug on your water heater so it can drain?
All you need is a 1 1/8 socket with an extention and don't forget the teflon thread tape when you re-insert.
