I have a 2000 Colman Cheyenne pop up that has a bad rot problem in the cargo area. I checked with a dealer on repairing it and they are talking about $1500 to replace the entire cargo area. Has anyone had this done and how hard would it be to just replace the rotted out sections?

My aunt and uncle had this same problem on their '96 Cheyenne. Their PUP was taken to the Somerset plant and had to have the entire front storage replaced.

There is a product that will reinforce the rotted wood section. I couldn't find the link, but I learned about it on this forum about 2 years ago. It was expensive, but when mixed and poured onto the rotted area it filled the area and strengthened it. Maybe someone else knows about it, our a search will find it.

I have the same problem with my cloeman cheyenne as well as some spots by the sink and the door. If you do a Google search for "wood repair" you'll come up with a few solutions. I tried one of the wood repair products and it worked ok. I think it needs a few more treatments. Minwax also makes a wood hardener which might work as well. Apparently this was/is a common problem with coleman/fleetwood p/u's with the storage box. I will continue to work on mine in the spring. Here's one of the links I found:

I had a roof leak on my Dutchmen and had the wood rot out above the door. To repair I trimmed off the outer skin back to the good wood, then scraped off all the rotted wood using a rasp to shave it smooth. Then fit a 1/2" plywood piece as a replacement. I used a water resistant heavy duty construction glue that was also rated to fill gaps. Smoothed it all down, and painted it when dry. It's held well so far (2+ years).

With our new purchase of 2000 Westlake, I noticed the bare wood when I crawled under it checking on flipping the axel. I would think this wafer board would be sealed to prevent rotting. I was thinking of buying a couple of spray cans of undercoating that is used on cars. I don't know how the trailer would smell after the application. It needs something to coat the under side. I will be checking the storage compartment tomorrow!

The worst thing you could do is attempt to undercoat the flooring material. It's special material made to get wet and dry out. You attempt to undercoat it and you will not get everything, which means moisture will seep into areas undercoated from areas not coated and the absolute wort thing is having that moisture stay in contact with the material.
