While I was at the Tampa RV show I talked to a Thor factory rep who said after 2009 no RV manufacture would install a ladder on an RV due to several injuries and lawsuits. He said it was a new RV safety standard. He said you could install your own ladder if your RV had the bracing. Anyone else hear anything or was the Thor rep telling me a tall story? He said they had two lawsuits pending.

That doesn't surprise me, this country is becoming a nanny state with all of the new rules they keep coming up with. I never use my ladder anyway as a little giant ladder is much safer and easier to get up and down anyway. (At my age)

News to me. Not really much a big deal for most people as most units are too flimsy and barely sufficient enough to support a grown man climbing the ladder let alone walking around on the roof.

If not true industry wide at least it is logical. I understand RV rental companies order them ladderless.

It only takes one person to mess it up for everyone! I'm not surprised. With the RV industry being hit so hard anyway with sales down, and our fragile economy right now, a single law suit could be devastating for them. Remember when they use to put front windows in RV's also?

If true I'll be sorry to see ladders go. Mine gets used frequently for cleaning the roof, twice a year, removal of leaves from slide tops prior to retraction, slide top snow removal, tree trimming as necessary to get into site & sometimes photo taking, as at Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta.

I have seen people fall off of the steps of there campers. I think they should outlaw them to avoid lawsuits. Just kiddin but that is how ridiculous it sounds to outlaw ladders on rvs. If you are not talented enough to climb a ladder then stay off it!!!

There is little doubt that the attached ladder is a REALLY poor method of mounting the roof AND that getting on the roof is a REALLY BAD idea by ANY means but it DOES make for a handy place to carry a REAL ladder or bike rack. I DOUBT that the story is true since there is very little cooperation about those matters from one manufacturer to another.

That would be an requirement, for us, to have a ladder.
