As soon as we saw Rodger's shower modification to the sink sprayer, we knew we wanted to do it too. When we went shopping for the parts, however, we had problems finding what we needed, particularly a sprayer with a longer than 4 foot long hose. Since we already had the shower head and hose, we decided to go the "splice" route instead. 5/16" brass hose barb, two 9/16" spring type hose clamps, 3" of 3/4" shrink tubing. 10 minutes time, under $10.
Here are the parts we needed, please excuse the messy bench.

Hoses onto brass barb and spring clamped

Ears broken, filed, off of clamps to make them smooth

Finished splice with shrink tube in place

Final installation

thanks again, Rodger, great idea! We will also be doing our outside shower hose the same way, 10 feet long when done.

Oh nice! Thanks so much for the pictures... I think I can even attempt this one!
Are the 'hook' things (to hold the handle up) easy to find? A piece of mine broke off, and I haven't fixed it yet.
Many thanks!

The kitchen sink sprayer as shower head really works well.
If you camp with full hookups and want a hands free shower consider using a 1,2,Both diverter then you can select the regular shower head, or the sprayer or both by turning the diverter valve to what you want.

When I took my Roadtrek in to be winterized, they told me the shower head was leaking. (I haven't used the shower yet, but I will be soon)
When I go to get the supplies to do this modification.. will I be able to buy a hose to extend the kitchen sprayer - or will I have to buy another shower kit complete? I will be going to Home Depot.
MarcoPolo... you mention 1,2 Both diverter (sorry - I dont' know these terms - I feel handicapped ) -- do you mean that you keep the existing shower head and add the sink sprayer???
Thanks!

Yes, you keep both. I think the correct name is a three way diverter valve. It is used for head and hand shower combinations.

Towandabluffs: I have seen the hoses sold separately, but don't remember where, but even a complete hose and head is pretty cheap for a plain one.
Markopolo's idea could be very handy. You could also get the similar results, if you do the splice conversion that doesn't change the faucet thread, by having a separate shower hose you could put on the faucet for a non-shutoff setup. You just couldn't switch back and forth quickly.
PS--very handy to make the hose long enough to use the sprayer in the sink, too.

Booster, thank you. Yes.. I can see where the long hose would be handy for the sink as well! And since I dont' really know what was leaking according to the guys that winterized it, I'll get the entire new one (hopefully it will have the proper hanger for it to put on the wall).
I like the idea of having both so hands free is possible if I have sewer hookups, though that likely won't be often.
Thanks for sharing. I've printed out your pictures and I'm going to take them with me to Home Depot this week.
And I'll see if I can get the diverter valve as well..thanks MarcoPolo!

I was thinking this would be good setup for the outside shower too. The sink sprayer has a little more pressure than the stock one. This would be good for outside cleaning jobs. What I like about this forum is the fact that we get excellent ideas and improve on them.
I have Rodgers setup now and I am might go with this set up for the outside shower.
Thanks for sharing.

TowandaBluffs; Good luck on your quest! I don't know for sure, but Home Depot may not have the right barb fitting and clamps. Sometimes they are a little light on variety there. If they don't, any good old hardware store probably will. Same with the shrink tubing. I had it one hand, but you may wind up at a Radio Shack or such.
If you have trouble getting the tubes on the barb, you can heat up the tubing end in boiling water and it will go right on. BE SURE TO PUT THE CLAMPS AND SHRINK TUBING ON BEFORE YOU PUT THE TUBES ON THE BARB. They won't fit over the ends of the hose.
