While having my battery draw checked at the shop they told me I should have the propane stuff removed from my engine cause it reduces the gas mileage when using gas (the propane system doesn't work anyway). They can't give me a price cause they don't know all they need to do until right into the work. Is it true by leaving some of the propane stuff in place my mileage will be worse?
Hopefully 1 day (soon) I'll get everything sorted out. Thanks

?? I'm not understanding the question. What propane stuff do you have connected to the engine? When you say the propane system doesn't work, are you saying your stove, furnace, hot water heater and fridge won't run on propane? I'm confused....

This should be interesting! How/what propane stuff needs to be removed from engine? I can understand "if" you took off the LP tank(s), LP appliances you might be a few pounds lighter, but I wouldn't think that would be enough to make a difference in mileage. Plus, if you decide to trade later on, buyer would prefer to have the LP appliances left in and have the system checked and fixed. But, I have never heard of propane stuff being removed from an engine.
Will be checking back to see other responses.

I concur with sjtpak. If it's not related to the engine (ie.. gas, stove, furnace), then it will have no bearing on power/performance.
Perhaps they're naively suggesting that the extra weight of the propane tank will cause extra power consumption -- and if so, they are wrong to indicate that something so small would effect power.

I am thinking the engine has been modified to run on either gas or propane or natural gas.

Jeez guys, pull your heads out. He has an engine that at least used to be able to run off of LP or gas. A bi-fuel engine.

I think the poster was referring to an engine that had been set up to work on either propane or gasoline. I cant imagine the propane parts (the control/mixture valves, the heater exchanger to pre-heat the propane, the propane tubing and pressure regulator, would cause any difficulty to running on gasoline - other than a little added weight. But there are many different schemes that have been used in making propane-or-gasoline burning engines, that you would have to look at the actual engine and look for something that would upset the efficienty when using gasoline.

As I was reading another post, I happened to think NRALIFR that is probably the case..if so, if that were my truck, then I would definitely have the LP system taken off.

Yes it has an engine that was dual fuel (gas or propane). Sorry for the confusion.

You might want to seek a 2nd opinion. I'm guessing you have gasoline via EFI, with the Impco® Mixer on the intake. How cobbled or how professional in installation was this? If you are not sure, you may want to find somebody who knows more about it than anyone you have asked so far.
If the Impco® is sized for your engine and your EFI is working properly, it should not have a significant effect (I think). There could be a few advantages to getting the LPG made right, instead of taking it off. But you need to have it seen by someone who understands it.
