We are planning a 21 Day trip to Yellowstone this summer (our longest previous trip was 12 days) and I was wondering how many of you keep a journal of your trips. Also for those who do, what format do you use - hand written, computer based or other.

We keep a daily journal of each trip we take. We do it in longhand and it just includes activities. Some day the DGKs will find it and have fun remembering the trips we took and hopefully plan their own.
We keep a journal on the really long trips. I use both notebook and computer. I use the notebook when we are out sightseeing or whatever then I put it all on the computer. I use Microsoft Word.

I posted a reply to your question about a TJ but did not include the basic things that I try to include in my entries. The following is a list of things I include:
Date
Time
Location (including campground space # if it was really special)
Weather
Mileage (start and stop if it is a travel day)
Activities
I found these things to be things that Lewis and Clark, Darwin, Byrd and others kept in their journals and in rereading our old journals they bring back the most memories. I don't try to keep a cost journal but I keep milage and fuel in a spearate journal for rough commparision. DW and I kept a journal of our trip to AK in 2000 and it is still fun to refer to it for info and memories. We don't have a laptop yet but when we get one I will use some form of software to make a form to be filled in on a daily basis. Good luck on the trip to Yellowstone.

I tried to send you a PM it is word document that you could just print but it got bounced back because I am not on your buddie list.....
Since we started camping in May 2004, I have kept a journal of every trip we make even rv shows. I keep up with each site #, price of cg, who all is wiith us, what we did that trip, and this past summer even wrote how much dsl was per gallon. Even if it is the same campground, I write the trip down. It is fun to go back and look and remember. This also helps if I am headed to a campground that I have not been to in awhile, I can look back and see what sites I liked, didn't like, and if I needed anything extra when I went to that campground. Also, I keep a notebook with campgrounds maps in it. I have a map of every campground we have been too. Great reference source when making reservations. We have alot COE campgrounds in our area, so we usually head out to a different one everytime we go out, and each one has it pros and cons.,so the journals really help.
Happy Camping and Safe Travels!
The Williams Family
We started out with notes on a calendar, and ended up with this.
By the way, I have links to hundreds of RV blogs, journals & travelogues, some built from scratch & others produced using web sites that provide blogging templates. The links are here.
I keep a log of every trip we go on, even if it's just over a night or two to somewhere close by. There were times I wondered if it was silly, but we have used that log time and time again to recall different details we have forgotten. I handwrite it, and include pictures. It may be useless to anyone else reading it, but we love looking back and recalling the memories. Almost like being able to relive it all over again!
