We are planning a trip to Florida and my trip planner sends us through the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel, but it is RED marked with a P meaning propane tanks are prohibited.
95 to 895 / Baltimore Harbor Tunnel PP
What is an alternate route to get around this? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

See you on the road!

Take I695 South around and over the Key Bridge.

I took the 695 east (bridge route) for the first time earlier this month on my way north. I thought it would have been a lot shorter as the roadmaps appear to "look". Also, there is a toll to consider going east. I just traced each route on a map program and I am getting the 695 East route to be 24.7 miles and 26.9 miles on the west route. If that map tool I used is accurate, I'll stay with the west route, go two extra miles, and save a toll and actually maybe some time too as there was some bridge traffic.

When I picked up our TT two years ago I traveled on the 695 West side and the road and traffic was not all that bad. Of course I only took it to the I-70 exit which is not quite halfway around that side of the city.

My earlier recommendation of the Key Bridge route was based on historical replies here on this forum to the very same question.

Depending on how you feel about Baltimore and DC, why not consider going down the DelMarVa Peninsula, which is a much nicer ride...and does not add much time. That is my route of preference....we are up and down the coast a lot, and this is a nice route.

I would recommend picking up Rt.301 South in Delaware and continue down the eastern shore of Maryland, much less traffic. Just east of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge it merges with Rt 50. Cross the Bay Bridge (no toll going west bound) and stay on Rt 50 to Rt.95/495 south around Washington, DC. The new bridge across the Potomac is now open. Maryland just raised bridge tolls so you might want to check the fee on the MDOT website.

Directions around Baltimore using Maryland’s Eastern Shore from the Delaware Memorial Bridge. IMHO avoid all cities during Rush Hour + Travel time 9:30 – 3:00 and always check for construction.

Printed directions

From I-95 or I-295
On I-95 South -- to Exit 4A Rt 1/7 Christiana Rd -- South -- 4 +- miles
Merge into Rt 13/1 South -- 5+- miles over Chesapeake and Delaware Canal
Exit 148 right lane immediately after CDC Bridge this will loop under the Bridge to
Rt 13 South -- 3+- miles to
Right turn on Rt 896 West -- 3+- miles to
Left on Rt 301 South This will take you over the Bay Bridge (No Toll) to Annapolis you can continue on Rt 301 South or take Rt 50 to Washington DC and I-95

This will get you around Baltimore is a very pleasant drive on MD's Eastern Shore -- stay 9 over the speed limit Max and you will be fine.

After driving up to my Son's college for five years in NJ I found this is one of the most pleasant drives around. (4 years for him 1 year for his friends)

Hope this is of some help,

This along with I-295 will save a little time,

This is a good alternative, you bypass Baltimore traffic. Just be VERY careful on your timing when you hit the DC Beltway. DC does not have a rush hour - they have a rush day That is why I take the commuter train to work.
