Thinking about making the switch from 5th wheel to Class A.
We like what the Class A would provide us with having two little kids, it would make our trips much easier. The obvious big concern is $$ to get started, and the state of the RV industry right now.
I was wondering if anyone has made the change from 5th wheel to Class A, but realized it was not what they expected and switched back or wished they had never made the change. If so, what were the main reasons.
I've had all different types; POPUP, Class C, Class A, & Fiver (currently). The main difference as you already posted is $$$. Much cheaper to own & operate towable.
However if one is going to use heavily (often), then I would prefer Class A (w/toad of course). It just seems to me to be less stressful traveling and setting up and breaking camp, JMHO and you are truly self contained w/class A. Lot's to consider. Good Luck in your decision & happy camping.
We have had several TT's, a fiver and now a motorhome. We loved the fiver but it was the truck that became the problem. The truck was a extended cab long bed. Try to find a parking place big enough in the larger cities when sight seeing. I wasn't big on getting a motorhome but ran across one that my DW really liked. Guess what became ours. Now that I have the motorhome, you couldn't get me back into a TT or fiver. I like the driving position and all of the features that a MH has. Guess I am a happy MH owner now. We have gone across the country with it and have 10,000 miles and 90 days of use with it.

Yes, I've made the switch from a 5er to A and NO I would not go back, BUT
This is a want, not a NEED and in these economic times you should focus on your needs and yes I'm old enough to be your father. Having come up the ranks of RVing, tent to class A , A's are the nicest and most expensive way to go down the road. You will need a car to tow, even if you buy a 34' bunkhouse and what are you going to do with the PU, especially if you do not need it when camping? It's a buyers market if you do not have a trade so maybe if you can get out of the PU and 5er without loosing your shirt by selling them yourself a move to an A would be OK. The games dealers play when trading, especially on young people, is often criminal. So my fatherly advice, fortunately for free is when you have ever thing paid off, including credit cards you can do whatever you want. I know, this is not what you wanted to hear but it may be what you NEEDed to hear. If the economic outlook was better my advice might be different or if you could use it 100 day/year, which I doubt; so until thing improve, enjoy what you already have.... and your welcome.
I have always told folks. If I was going to park the RV and sit for several months year after year after year, I would switch to a 5'er simply because they seem to have more comforts of living.
But, and it's a big but, since we travel and move each year, the MH is a lot more convenient and a lot easier to travel in.
Plus the truck big enough to tow the 5'er I would want, wouldn't get it's hood in my garage let alone the rear bumper. Also that truck would be a waste of good dollars for me to own( insurance, gas and maintenance) during the 5 months or so when we aren't RV'ing.

We are considerig the opposite. We currently have a 40' diesel pusher and are considering a 5th wheel. We really enjoy ours when traveling but seem to be spening more time in one place instead of moving frquently. It sure is a lot easier to set up the motorhome on a rainy day.
