I've noticed in the past several people use conversion vans to camp in on here. I have a 94 Ford conversion van that has started making a series of 5 beeps when I start it. We've had this van for 2 years and it has never done it before. Sometimes it does it going down the road as well and then it stops. I've been driving it everyday to work for the last month with no problems, no lights are on, nothing seems to be wrong mechanically.
Anyone remember what that is for or have an old book that tells?
If not, I guess we can go to the Ford dealer and ask.The van has been great to camp in with a tent and for day trips.

'5 beeps'? Is this from the horn, or the Ford OEM warning buzzer, or something totally different? What area is it coming from? Maybe a PO installed a burglar alarm system that's partially disabled?

1994 with tv and "VCR"? may have a dead coach battery and the beeping may be from a inverter behind tv, the tv, or the vcr under low voltage. or a fuse block, if it happen when first starting or shortly after. by be behind the bench seat on the driver side. sometimes there is a block behind the driver seat in/on the wall.
What is your electrical equipment in the van.

Sounds like the vehicle is trying to communicate with you! Is it your engine computer, some communicate their problems with a series of beeps which can then be looked up. I would think a trip to your dealer might be the best bet!
Good luck!

It's not the horn, it sounds like it is in the dash. We know it is trying to tell us something, but it seems like if it were the engine a light would be on.
We haven't thought of a burglar alarm, my husband wondered if it could be the airbags for some reason.
I guess we do need to take it to a dealer.

Try reading this thread on the Ford Enthusiasts Forum - they're saying it's the airbag system, but the thread refers specifically to a Ford Escape.

Bamabound,
I'd try an auto parts store. They don't charge to hook it up to their code reader and read the trouble codes. Some still have OBD-1 code readers- you may have to try a couple of different places. My Ford van is a '95 (still OBD-1) and they can get a great deal of useful information from the vehicle's sensors.
There is a way to count flashes of... something to do the same thing. I've always been able to find a store with the reader and haven't had to resort to that.

Could it be a problem with the seat belt "reminder" ?
On our RT on the Chevy it will beep/ding 4 or 5 times and keep it up if you do not fasten the seat belt.

I don't know if it works for Fords but the Dodges have it so you can get the code by turning the key as to start but don't. I do it on & off 3 times leave on the third time look at the odometer & see if codes come up. There will be a P then a 3 or 4 digit code. You need a Ford manual for your model to look up the problem.

Our local mechanic said it was the airbag sensor thing going bad. It's some little panel that has to be replaced.
My husband is not home right now to tell me again the correct terms, but I think this is close to what he said. Thanks for the help!
We've had all kinds of Fords and have never heard of this before!
