I finally took the time to run my Seneca HD36FS over the scale it weighed 21,400, 2 adults, 4 kids, 1/4 tank of water, full fuel, I was surprised the weight was that much.

Same thing I found. Did you get a weight of rear axle only?

That is one of the reasons I went to the International chassis when I sold my Kodiak chassis Four Winds Fun Mover. Being a class 6, the International has a GVWR of 25,999# and a GCWR of 33,000#. My 34' weighs in on a CAT scale at 21,600# fully loaded with food, clothing, gear, 2 people, 140 gallons of fuel and 100 gallons of water. Holding tanks were empty. Front axle weight was 9,180# and rear was 12,420#. I know this discussion is about the Kodiak but I wanted to give a comparison to the class 6 vs the class 5 chassis. Chevrolet builds a class 6 Kodiak chassis but for some reason, the RV industry has not embraced it. I think that is a big mistake. As Ron and others have shown, the class 5 5500 Kodiak chassis is at or almost at capacity when loaded for the road.

It all depends on the make and model. I have a Gulf Stream 33-foot model 6316. Heading out for a trip fully loaded with full gas and fresh water, my unit weighs 17,780 lbs. That still leaves me 1,720 lbs Cargo Carrying Capacity.

Go for any of the Kodiak units, you will have no problem with 6000lb.

With the trailer loaded to the hilt with more fuel than I normaly carry, The race car, Quad, tools & equipment it was just under 10k. With the coach full of water propane and fuel, plus food, 3 adults a 1yr old, and all associated gear total weight was 27,700 (about 1700lbs over) I weighed it worst case senario. I figure most days I am right at the GCWR. It tows great, it could use a little more power but what couldn't at that weight.

From what I have been learning, the issue for towing on the kodiak chasis is not the frame, suspension, or axles. They are all plenty strong enough to tow 10 -15k lbs. The issue is the Allison 1000 tranny, which is the same tranny that you would have in your pickup. This is what cuts down the towing capacity of your unit. I personally wouldnt be too worried about this, I am seriously thinking about buying a seneca 36ms, and I will be towing 10000 lbs with it. I will be adding a deep pan and watch the guage when going over hills.

I assume this is a deep pan for the transmission. Is one available from GM or is it from aftermarket suppliers?

Check with B & M, TCI, and Bully Dog. All make deep pans.
