We've been to OL many times and never unhooked until we got to our site. I don't think I've ever seen anyone else unhook at the checkin office I guess because it's usually too busy to do it there. If you want to unhook before the campground there is a Walmart about 2 miles or so from the campground. You could do it there.

When I go to Ocean Lakes, I unhook on the street before I pull into my site. If I wait to unhook after I pull into the site, there is too much strain on the tow bar to get it loose. So for me, I unhook just before I pull into the site while the toad is in line with the MH.

I was there two weeks ago and made the mistake of trying to unhook the tow dolly on the site. Im sure some site you probably can, but the one we had was very short (only 37ft.) If I had it do over again I would have just unhooked on the road next to the site and then pulled onto the site.
I always unhook my 5ver from the TV before I enter OL. Then I have DW push the fiver into the park, to and on the site. That always seems to irritate her.
Quote: If the roads are wide enough not to worry, then I'll wait until we're at the campsite.
We have express checkin.
I was going to suggest the expres checkin. Since you have it, make sure you drive straight up to the guard shack and not to the right under the canopy.
Just wait til you get to the road your site is on. The roads between the sites aren't so wide that folks can go around you, it's just that there aren't many sites on each road so chance are you won't hold up any folk.
Enjoy the stay, it's crowded as ocean front CGs usually are, but I've always enjoyed my stays there.
