I had a similar problem with the outside handle on my 06 HR Scepter last week. The outside handle would not open the door, and felt loose ,or disconnected. Luckily, my dw was still inside the coach, and the inside handle operated normally. By taking off the inside panel and door handle I could pull the plastic paneling out far enough to see that a rod had become disconnected below the opening, but it was impossible to reach. I called the Monaco tech support team (which still is operating during working hours). He spelled out their procedure, which required disassembling the entire door to get inside to the mechanism. I decided this was not practical to do on-site in the campground, so devised an alternate procedure.
With a razor knife, I cut out that portion of the inside door panel that is the depression where the screen door handle rests against the door panel. I was able to tell this was exactly over the spot where the disconnected rod was. The rod was two ends of threaded rod connected by a 2 inch long turnbuckle type nut with jam nuts on each end. Vibration had caused the jam nuts to loosen, and the turnbuckle nut rotated until it became disconnected. It's simpler in fact than this description sounds. With this hole cut out, I was able to reconnect the rods and tighten the jam nuts, using threadlocker to prevent another disconnect. I obtained a piece of similar thickness plastic from a sign company gratis, and fastened it over the hole using small screws. Now I have a ready made access to the mechanism if another failure occurs. Net cost--$0.
I realize this is a rather long-winded post, but hope it might help others with this all to common failure.
I have a PDF on adjusting the door door handle and parts inside the latch mechanism. Contact me direct rbdtanasi @ yahoo.com (remove the two extra spaces) and I will send it to you. If one of the operative rods came off, this should show you how to get it working again.

Thanks for all the information. Unfortunately, I can see where the metal broke so it is not just reattaching the rods. It seems that RV repair shops in the San Antonio, Boerne, Cenral Texas don't carry them in-stock. KUDO's to Holiday World of Houston in League City as they provided a part number. I understand that Trimark redesigned the mechanism. Will call them as soon as they open their doors this morning. Again, thanks for all the information.
