Lexus shows a new model which is a convertible and I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not it is towable? 4 down or on a dolly?

Thanks

Being that it is a rear wheel drive automatic, you cannot tow it 4 down without the usual modifications i.e. using an auxillary pump for the tranny or drivshaft disconnect. But it is a new vehicle so good luck in finding one for it.

The IS is rear-wheel drive, so it shouldn't be towed on a dolly. Not a good idea to tow a car backwards. The question is whether you want to trust a $40,000 car to a lube-pump or driveshaft disconnect? The only approved flat towable Lexus is the IS 250 with the manual transmission. We considered an IS, but it is way too small, so we're going for a manual Maxima.

I don't think that is approved either. Just because it's a manual transmission doesn't make it towable. It depends on how the transmission is lubed.

Well, you're flat wrong on this one, Deen. The owner's manual clearly states a Maxima with a manual transmission is flat towable, as are other Nissans. BTW, the manuals are available on-line.
