There is a Blackbird on display at the SAC Museum just off I-80 between Omaha and Lincoln, NE.
I flew coordinated recon missions with the SR-71 several years ago. I was on RC-135s.
Saw the Blackbird take off and land many times at RAF Mildenhall, UK while I was stationed there. It used to park not far behind our operations building. Awesome airplane!

My wife's grandfather was one of the designers of the SR-71 and the U2. We've got all sorts of Skunkworks memorabilia in a box somewhere.

Pima air museum...... I havent been there snce the SR has been there...Waiting for the kid to get a little older and the take him there....
The SR was my first model airplane.. When I lieved in Berlin Germany, there was another Air Force kid there that lived on Beale AFB, he said that they broke alot of windows.....
It was suppose to be and still be the fastest plane, WHO KNOWS, but now the satelites do the work.. I remember it was develoved in the 50's and kept secret for YEARS...

I had many opportunities to see them pretty close while serving in the military and seeing them fly.
They were amazing to see.
Just think though, as far as I know the actual top speeds of this aircraft are still classified or were until just a few years ago. And that was late 50s and early 60s technology!
Makes you wonder just what we have flying today they don't talk about.
And I understand that a couple of these birds are still in service. I think one is with NASA.
Here is a link to some of the Official Speed records they will admit to~

Yes, it's a need to know just like many other weapons that we have.
I worked as a civilian on our nuc subs until retirement and the dive depth and speeds they can attain are also classified.
Need to know~~~you know!
