I happened upon the blog of a full-timer recently, and was surprised to read that they considered themselves to be "professional campers."

They were in a campground that filled up over a weekend (as campgrounds naturally do) and weren't pleased at having to deal with (heaven forbid) families or noise from them, and were happy when Sunday rolled around and the campground pretty much emptied out so only the "professional campers" were left (with a few others).

Now, I've never heard of full-timers actually calling themselves "campers" so was quite surprised to read that phrase in reference to themselves.

So tell me, what do you think is a "professional" camper?

Maybe a full-timer? I've never heard the term either.

Isn't it, though! Especially from someone in a motorhome! I've heard of actual fights breaking out if you had the nerve to call someone in a motorhome a "camper"! LOL

Well, I suppose if they were paid to camp, that would make them professional campers. Was their RV decked out in sponsorship logos?

A "professional camper" would be someone that is paid to camp...I don't know anyone like that. I.E.-A Professionl Driver (Limo, Commercial Truck, NASCAR), Professional Sportsman ( Jim Dillard-Kevin VanDam, Fishing...Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Golf) Professional Astronaut (John Glen, Neil Armstrong)

Now he may have been aluding to being a "Pro" of some other kind...(Nudge-Nudge! Wink-Wink!)

I always thought of a "professional" as someone who specialized in a certain trade and was recognized as being quite proficient or expert.

However, that would tend to indicate a professional camper was one who enjoyed camping and all the ramifications that come with camping or RV'ing including camping or RV'ing neighbors, and playful children and pets.

While there is a segment of society that currently live full-time in RV's placed in RV parks or similar settings, I'm not sure they would be considered professional campers.

Additionally, there are those who extensively travel in their RV's and perform vocational duties such as those folks who rate campgrounds and sell advertising for campground directories. I also doubt these folks would qualify as "professional" RV'ers or campers.

Then there are those who hawk all kinds of RV and camping products and accessories. I guess they could be called professional campers.

Based on the assumption that they are Full Timers that pay to camp and that makes them professional campers. Then that makes me a professional Fisherman, a professional eater and a professional fuel dispenser, you starting to get the point. If you pay to do something that makes you a pro?

I think they have a distorted image of thier status and a poor understanding of the word professional.
