I was traveling down the highway with a/c on, all was normal. The a/c drive belt broke and of course the a/c quit working. I replaced the broken belt and now when the a/c clutch is engaged it makes a terrible screaming noise until you turn it off. Now the Check Engine Soon Light is also on. Any ideas on what is wrong with my 1994 Pinnacle with 454 Chevrolet engine P-30 chassis.

sounds like the compressor bearings are shot. may be time for a new compressor.

You are probably way ahead of me but if you have a serpentine belt check to make sure it is properly routed.

Happened to my son one time he miss routed the belt and it worked fine until the compressor kicked on and it would squeal.

Hope that is all it is good luck.

The reason your belt broke was probably due to the compressor seizing up and or binding. I would not engage the A/C compressor until you have it looked at by a tech. Or...you may have just a loose belt that is squealing like crazy and needs to be routed and or adjusted correctly....that may be the reason your check engine lite is coming on as well. You never know!!
Good Luck.
