Recently acquired a class C with a 24 foot awning.

Curious how many of you use the center support leg for the awniing?

How many only use it in bad weather?

Mine doesn't even have a center support. In bad weather I roll up the awning so the wind won't damage it.

If you have a center support use it, the manufacturer thought it was needed or it would not be there. If the awning is set up correctly leaving it extended in rain won't hurt it. In wind roll it up.

A center support is good for an awning that length. Even when rolled up, over time the sheer weight of the tube & fabric will cause it to sag in the middle. The extra support helps prevent that. When it sags that means the tube is bent or warped. When that happens, it will not roll up as well & when unrolled will sag in the middle.

Use it.
Guy at MB this summer lost his awning and it wasn't even raining or windy. I think it was 18 or 20 foot, the thing just snapped right in the middle.

something had to happen to cause that, or it was already damaged before he got there... they are pretty tough...

I have straightened a lot of them and it takes a lot to do it...

any awning over 20 needs a center support and it wouldn't hurt with 16 to 20 foot either.. Long awnings need a saddle to rest in when rolled up to or they can bow from all the repeated bouncing…

Wwe do not have the center support leg but we do have tie downs that we use when we set up plus we tie the awning to the picnic table or nearby trees. We have taken ours in three times in hundred of nights of camping.
We camp where there are large trees, not the spindly things some campgrounds have.

I believe that anything longer than 22' made by A&E requires a center support and not using one voids warranty.

Yes, I and he would agree with you. He said it didn't "seem right" when he rolled it out.
I think it needed a saddle more than anything. Could be wrong, but just seemed too long not to have one, and could have damaged it from traveling and bouncing. ????
