Literally they suck. I need to know what you use to keep mosquitoes away. We have used all kinds of sprays, which dont work that good, but would like to know what you use. Candles, clip on things, anything. If you have something that works for you please let us know. We are heading out this weekend and dont want to get eaten alive like last time. Thanks.

The mosquito sprays with Picaridin work well, they are fragrance free and are not sticky. The mosquitoes always come after me, if I am diligent about applying it I do not get bitten.

Bug spray that contains DEET. 30% usually works pretty good.
If not, then you can get it with 100%. Just be careful, as some people are sensitive to having high concentrations of deet on their skin.
Otherwise I sometimes use a cheap portable screen tent when I go to the Boundary Waters Canoe area.

We use Deep Woods Off. Works where we are now, in Alaska, and also keeps the No-See-Em's off.

You could search this Forum for `mosquitos' then search the results for something like `deet' or `off'.
Also, mosquitos can't fly in winds more than 8 mph so turn on a fan.

We have used the deep woods and up to 55% deet sprays and it seemed like the pests liked the smell and taste. I dont know what it is with these Idaho blood suckers.

The Off Clip on seems to work pretty good, only tried once. A good fan to keep air moving also works.

The most effective way to avoid being stung by mosquitoes is to protect your skin so the little bloodsuckers will stay away. Naturally, dressing in long-sleeved shirts, tops and jackets will help deter mosquito bites. As well as wearing long pants and socks.
"They" say to eat plenty of spaghetti that's heavy on the garlic sauce. Garlic, when ingested by eating foods or taking tablets, can help make your blood less attractive to female mosquitoes. My friend eats it like candy and he gets bit but good.
Now I know this sounds crazy, but we dilute clorox with water and rub it on with a wash towel. They HATE it and we never get bit. The skeeters bite more if you're wearing colonge or she has perfume on we've noticed.
Catnip works too. This herb isn't just ideal for entertaining your cat. Its oil is actually said to be more than 10 times more effective at repelling mosquitoes than DEET. This effectiveness makes it the ideal plant to grow close to your patio or deck.
I recommend combining eucalyptus oil and lemon balm oil for creating a pleasant-smelling (and very effective) homemade mosquito repellent. In fact, these two essential oils are often combined commercially.

I read in a provincial park newspaper that the increase in Deet is like the SPF of sunscreen. The higher the number the longer it lasts but it made no indication that is worked any longer. I found it interesting but have not researched how valid it is.
Many swear by the Off lanterns or Thermocells. They both use the same technology. I live in the woods and I Believe both of those devices are effective in keeping a small area clear.
