SD here, also. Very reasonable rates, especially compared to my home state NJ. Do you know where you want to set up your domicile? Lots of FTers use SD or TX. If you are an Escapee, they offer mail forwarding and much more (TX). There are lots of options, you need to find the one that fits your needs.

Jack, it comes a time where you have to do your own research. What works for me and others might not work for you. HERE is a place to start. There are multiple links to find out what it will cost for your stuff.

There are three states which are by far most popular for domicile of full-time RV folks. They are Texas, Florida and South Dakota. The reason is that none of the three have any state income tax, nor do any of them require that you spend any specific period of time in the state to become a legal resident. In addition, all three have very reasonable costs to register and insure RVs and motor vehicles.
By far the largest group of fulltimers use the Escapees RV Clubas their legal address, mail forwarding service and they provide many other services. The Escapees are the only complete support organization for folks who live in an RV, with far more than just mail services. I strongly suggest that you check them out. You can also learn much more about the Escapees here.

Florida I go on line for renewal of tags or drivers license. And they mail them to me.
Insurance I go on line and pay at renewal time. And they mail me new cards to carry in the vehicles.
In fact I pay Satellite TV, Satellite Internet, cell phone and all CC bills on line and do all banking on line.
Can do all that everywhere I am at, thanks to Datastorm.

Yeah but Florida has a first time registration fee that can add up to hundreds of dollars. I bought a used 92 Nissan when my 04 Buick got wrecked just to have some wheels. Paid $400 for the car, cost me almost $800 to register, insure, and lic the car in Fla. Went to Nebr, ( home base ) and it cost me less than $200 for everything. AND Fla gave me a ticket because I bought the car and didn't have plates on it as I drove it from where I bought it to Nebr. Impounded the car, and wanted to fine me over $200 and 6 months in Jail because I had no registration or plates. I will NEVER return to Fla again and buy a car. I was planning to buy a new(er) class A there but instead will buy it in any state but Fla.
