In the Southwest corner of Virginia there is a little town called Big Stone Gap with about the best campground we've ever stayed at. It's called Jessie Lea and the owner has put a lot of hard work and thought into the campground. Full hook ups, free cable and wifi for $26 a night. It's in the county of Wise. Not far from there is the Natural Tunnel State Park, the Natural Bridge is 80 feet wide but the tunnel is 850 feet wide. Pictures can't do this place justice. They have a chairlift that you take to the floor of it and back up. Or you can walk. Lots of paths to hike and a pool. Within the city of Big Stone Gap you have the Southwest Museum State Park which depicts the history of the coal mines. And about an hour away in Lee County there is the Wilderness Road State Park which tells of the early settlers who headed for Cumberland Gap. 15 minutes from that park is Cumberland Gap National Park. Also we found other little day trips in the area, one the kids enjoyed was Flag Rock that the locals told us about in Norton and there was also a drive in theatre that the kids enjoyed.
Look at a little town just off the Blue Ridge Parkway called Meadows of Dan. There is a full service CG there called (original) Meadows of Dan CG. Super nice place to visit, very nice staff. Have breakfast at the restaurant just up the Parkway from the town.
Another vote for Jellystone in Luray. LOTS of stuff to do at the CG for kids, waterslide, 2 pools, putt putt, large pond with paddle boats you can take out, large jumping pillows, laser tag, etc...

One note on the Endless Caverns RV Resort. It is new and not quite the ideal place, yet. We just returned from a one night stay. Although it looks beautiful, it will take 4 wheel drive to get to some of the pull thru sites at the top. Also, water pressure is very poor near the top. I'd recommend most all the other campgrounds though in the Shenandoah Valley to accomodate a large rig.
