Hey, I hope you stopped in Mammoth General Store. You should have said hello. Would loved to have met you. We are working there thru Oct. The General Stores is a Delaware North Company and not Xanterra.

The young man at the falls made a life choice. I don't think he has been found. If he has been found, I haven't heard about it. And, people are stupid when it comes to the animals. Rangers do a pretty good job now of managing people and not the animals. The way it should be!

heir max -

Hey, I was in the general store at Mammoth! BTW, I really like the general stores, the food we got at the one at canyon and grant was better than the cafeteria fair offered by xanterra... we liked them, they offer a reasonable price considering where you are, and the stores at canyon and grant had a decent produce selection, something we continually craved. At the mammoth store we bought some groceries, batteries, 3 packs of bottled water. We checked out at the center register. We ate our picnic lunch just outside, it was the only shade we could find. For some reason the Mammoth area seemed hotter, but maybe it was because it was crawling with people, there seemed to be alot of tour buses, etc. of folks who were in the park just for the day, maybe doing the outer loop? it was odd. We did stop and watch the elk graze on the green.

We, too, returned from GTNP and Yellowstone in late June.
Both are really unique. We couldn't take the rv due to time restraints, but stayed in some decent places. In fact, the cabins at Roosevelt were very much like staying in our rv...with maid service!

We took one day and drove the Beartooth Highway. The views are gorgeous. Still snow at one section, and there was skiing there.
We drove to Red Lodge, MT and back.

Regarding the bison, we were stuck on a road as two were walking down the middle. Some dumb driver insisted on going around the first bison, and he turned that 300-lb head of his and took the bumper off the car! Try explaining that to the rental car company!

Yellowstone and Grand Teton Nat'l Parks are not to be missed in our opinion. We can't wait to return some day.

Nice report, Stumps. We were there a few weeks ago and had a great time. We even had a very nice visit with Heir Max and his lovely wife.

Here we are at the North Entrance. One DOES need to watch out for the BEARS!

We too, returned from a Yellowstone trip in the beginning of July. We stayed in GTNP at Flagg Ranch, then went to Cody to check out the Buffalo Bill Cody Historical Center. What a great museum. Then we headed to West Yellowstone. Stayed at Grizzly RV Park. This is THE NICEST campground we have ever stayed at.

We had a bison come by our campsite one night during dinner while staying at Flagg Ranch. He just came strolling through the campground grazing on grass like none of us were even there. Some lady went up and stood about 10 - 12 feet from him while her husband took her picture! Stupid!

Advice for those going to Old Faithful.
DO NOT eat at the Lodge cafeteria, yuck, $$$.
DO eat at the INN restaurant, fantastic and the same price. A grand Inn worth a meal in.

"Wyoming is tons of just nothing. I drove hours, HOURS without seeing anything or anybody. and no cell coverage. But it has Yellowstone... and some oil wells."

Some believe that is a wonderful thing. Driving hours without seeing anybody is a great experience.

about food at Old Faithful Inn...

we spent some time there just gawking at the building, decided to have lunch, so we went back to the car, made up some sandwiches, packed a sack and headed back to the Inn. We went to the second floor deck and ate under the shade, it was great. I think the other folks there were eating what they bought downstairs, but no one seemed to mind we packed our food. It was a nice place to enjoy a meal, got to see a second eruption that way.

We also got to watch some senior citzens get cranky... that's always good fun.

Wow, that sounds great.

I've seen families haul coolers and picnic baskets out onto the Old Faithful deck and have full meals out there. The staff doesn't bat an eye at it. Very cool.
