Anyone have any thoughts on good websites where I could shop online for specific used trucks? Ebay obviously, and Craigslist, but other than that, what else have any of you used with some success?

I live near Pittsburgh, and I'm interested in GMC/Chevy 3/4 ton diesel trucks in particular. But this part of the country doesn't seem to be much of a diesel place. I can find lots of trucks out west or in TX for instance, but very few usually show up locally.

Any ideas?

After practically living on eBay and CraigsList for several weeks, I finally found my T.V. here:

http://workingtruckworld.com/

At the time there was great selection and some great deals.

You can try Cars.com. also. In addition, bookmark as many of the new vehicle dealers in your area as you can and then check there used inventories frequently.

Go to searchtempest.com and it will search craigslist so you don't have to pull up the 15 or so individual craigslists in your state then 15 more in the neighboring state. All come up at once. Saves tons of time. I loved that site when looking for my truck.

If you're looking specifically for diesel, this is a good place.

There are also some gassers on there, but not nearly as many as the diesels...

cars.com
autotrader.com
autobytel.com
carmax.com (Carmax has a ton of vehicles in one place, but the no haggle price policy means you'll pay a little more than you might elsewhere)

Both Thrifty and Enterprise car rental sell their cars and trucks to the public when they are finished and they list them online. You might get lucky and find the truck you want there (they also sometimes sell their better trade-ins). Along those lines, I know for sure that either Hertz or Penske sells their retired rental fleet to the public (I've looked over the site for at least one of them, can't remember which or it might have been both), also speak to some local truck rental companies to see what they do with their retired vehicles. Sometimes rental vehicles may have been driven harder than privately owned vehicles, but they usually have had all their maintenance done on time (sometimes more frequently than the schedule calls for) and they should have all records.

I personally haven't bought a vehicle through any of these sources, but they are all potential sources of good used vehicles. My parents have bought a few used cars from the rental companies over the years with very good results.

Another good one, even if it is too far for you, for comparison shopping.

I also live in southwestern Pa. I know a lot of people that have bought trucks at blue knob auto up near Altoona.

www.blueknobauto.com

Just looked on their site. If you search crew cab trucks, there are 3 or 4 Fords on there right now.

Good Luck! I've been looking for a good Excursion for over a year to replace my Expedition. I guess I'm just too picky on what I want.
