I am thinking of buying a Zune, how does this compare to Ipod?

DH reports that the other day a Wall Street analyst said Zune has only 2% of the market and thought they should withdraw from making the product. Could be another orphan soon?
This is a very funny commercial I remember:
"no one wants a zune for Christmas"
DH and 2 daughters are huge iPod fans, as you might guess

Our family has been using the Sansa line for some time, happy with them no problems. However we recently bought into the iPod line up, 3 so far. Why? Ease of use, accessories. I just don't see the variety of accessories for the other brand at this time. Few friends have Zune's and are happy with them, but they both admit they don't find the diversity and depth of accessories as you do with the iPod line up. We bought 3 of the refurb iPods, had problem with one after a month and they sent another within 3 days.

Zune does offer a subscription model .. pay 15.00 a month get all the tunes you want on it (as long as you pay 15.00 ea month) and you can keep 10 each month When you stop paying they all go away.. except the ones you kept ea month. So you pay 1.50 for the ones you keep .. Or you can just buy them like itunes .. a very compelling model for most people but the public doent like it...too Bad...
Zune is a capable player and compares well. but the itunes store outstrips the Zune store and considering the cost isn't that different .... Unless of course you want to use a subscription service then Zune is the way to go. itunes does not offer subscription.
As far as "status"... the ipod actually the itouch is the in thing to own!!!!Most Teens dont admit owning a Zune! Also something to consider... ipod sales are dropping in favor of the 200.00 itouch ...an iphone without the phone !! and access to the 65000 apps in the app store.

I'm thinking of the ZUNE also. Tiger Direct has the refurb unit
on for (sorta) cheap. My only caveat with the IPod is that you have to go to ITunes to load your stuff. I prefer to do all my loading in-house.
Thanx SW

Not true...there are many 3rd party apps that can control your iPod in lieu of iTunes, a lot of them are free.
Here's an article about some of them: iTunes Alternatives.

Really the itunes interface is acclaimed as the best out there!! so I'm not sure what people are not caring for or afraid of... much content is free and you can add your own content always CD's etc! And it integrates well. As posted above there are many alternatives for those not wanting to deal with itunes ( For whatever reason.... Work for Microsoft etc ) !!!

My brother bought a Zune that he's happy with, but I decided to go with the iPod simply because of the wide selection of accessories and add-ons available for it. Many speaker systems, receivers, clock radios, boom boxes, vehicles, etc. come with (available) iPod interfaces. With so much selection, it's easy to integrate the iPod into many things.
Our family has a couple of Shuffles, a Nano, and a Touch. As soon as I saw some of the applications available for downloading to the Touch (just like the iPhone except without the phone/camera) I was completely sold on it. It's just so versatile and simple to use, great for checking email, too.
Years ago, I too was reluctant to use iTunes but it really is a good program with excellent integration to the ipods. With the built-in feature to convert files to mp3, I have no issues using it to manage my own music. It also automatically backups my Touch every time I sync so if I ever have any problems, it's easy to fix.
The only thing I don't like is the pricing. Apple has a pretty tight lock on it so it's difficult to find competitive pricing between different stores.

We have a 30G Zune and a 30G I-River. The Zune is more user friendly for us. However, we just store our CD collection on the MP3 players and use them like we did a CD player with portable speakers, headphones and connection to our large stereo amplifier.
The Zune does a nice job of storing lots of photos also if that is one of your uses.
Our adult kids and their families are alwasy buying the next best Ipod, but do not seem to use them any differently than we do.
However, I suspect both our units will be orphans soon.
