Well if I throw NADA out the window and go by classifieds it becomes worth even less, more like 5,000. As it just came on Craigslist this week Iam sure he would******his pants if I offered him even 6,000, which Iam finding is even high. Guess I'll keep looking. Camper people around here are telling me I should be able to find something decent for around 3,500.

Thanks again!

snellbag:
Here's a website I used to survey the asking price for campers (or cars & other stuff). The camper I bought was about a 1,000 miles from here. This website will pull all (most?) listing on craigslist for a given item and can be limited by model, location, age, price, etc. NADA means very little, particularly in today's economy. You'll need to scroll through the Lance listings to find the specific model you want, or you can enter the model number in the "filter".

Man some of those people listing on there are using some good drugs. I looked at one that states "1998 Lance Legend 500 EC Truck Camper 12k or best offer" and then he/she states that the orginal price was $25K and that "NADA Suggested Retail $20,445". What kind of drugs is this guy on, for a 12 year old camper he still wants 50% of the orginal price. I just took a look at NADA and without adding any options in it looks to me it books for about $6200 retail. Even if I put in a generator, AC, and electric jacks it says the book it less than $7,300. I don't know for sure if NADA is telling me that the electtic jacks and generator are included in the base price but it appears that it does.

....a (nearly) 10 year old truck camper in excellent condition !!??!! Even if it were heated-garaged indoors most of it's life, I wouldn't believe it (it's what you can't see under the skin of the camper that'll come back to bite ya!). The current owner may not even realize that the entire unit may need expensive/time-consuming extensive caulking.

I don't care how good a truck camper looks or what the brand, after 10 years I'd only offer $2 or $3 thousand absolutely max. Now, if there were a few gold bars hidden in it, perhaps $5500

Good luck. Oh, and listen: never ever let a seller scare you. Call the seller up and offer $2000 with a 24-hour offer deadline if you really like that camper only

Good luck,
S-

Wow silverstrand I dont think I have the guts to do that, but I see what everyone is saying, and I THANK you all for such great advise!!

I dont know how you make someone realize that their camper is only worth 2-3,000 when they think they can get 9,500????

Snell:

The answer to your question is: time

...given enough time and effort in advertising, if the seller has thick skin and is in no hurry to sell, the seller may actually sell the unit...my guess is in the $6000 range.

It's really a buyer's market right now (even for truck campers). There are gazillions of used units for sale around our region. Driving through Vermont a few weeks ago, we counted 6 units advertised for sale sitting out in front of various homes...

Cheers,
S-
