Well I have my parts on order and now I need to find the instructions that were posted on here. I have looked and cannot find the site of someone on here who has all the instructions. I had it on my forums but it seems they delete after so many days. Many Thanks CharWan
I used that instruction sheet, too, and they didn't say how to get the new string through the center metal tube. Here's what I wrote in a Winnebago forum about my experience:
I had broken cords in one of my day-night shades, and ordered new
cord, so that I could re-string it. New shades were $200 from the RV
dealer, $160 from Winnebago, and $139 at CW. Cord was only $30, and
only comes in a 300-foot roll. It took me a total of around 55 feet
to do one shade that's 27 inches down, and 65 inches wide. I made a
holder for the roll of cord, which makes the job much easier. The
directions from Winnebago leave something to be desired.
The cords are a synthetic material, like nylon, and come in two
different colors. I cut the old cords at the top, where there's a
spring, and cut a 25-foot length of new cord. Then I wrapped the
middle of the new cords over the ends of the spring, like the old
ones were. Then I heated the ends of the new and old strings, at the
same time, one pair at a time, over a candle, and when the material
melted, I stuck them together end-to-end. Sometimes they caught fire,
in which case I just blew them out and stuck them together
immediately. Then I just pulled the old cords out the bottom, and the
new cords were automatically threaded in all the proper holes. The
new cords are too long, but that was on purpose-I could trim later to
the right length. I posted two pictures of the holder that I made for
the string in the photos section. I still have about 250 feet of
string - I'm set for a long time.
