Has anyone order a 5th wheel from the factory and was able to modify the floor plans to meet their needs? I’m looking to remove the permanent double bed and replace it with a sleeper sofa and also remove the washer/dryer cabinet and extend the existing cabinets and finally shorten up a interior wall and a door. I currently own a 08 Rockwood 8313 and love my floor plan but I want to upgrade to the 5th wheel. With these couple changes the floor plan would be similar to my Rockwoods. I’m look at the Cedar Creek 362BSA

I don't think you are going to find one of the larger builders make you changes. If you find one that did, I'm sure the cost would be considerably higher. You would probably need to find a custom builder, and would definitely be many $$$$$. Good luck.

Call the Cedar Creek factory and see. My guess is probably not. If it is structral changes it would require re engineering to make sure it's safe, if just removing items and shifting minor things around maybe. Cedar Creek makes all their cabinets on site so it would definatly be a good chance of getting some changes done. One of the problems I see though is that the slide mechanism is located under the bed, therefore removing it and replacing with a sleeper sofa wouldn't leave enough room for the slide mechanism. My second guess is moving a wall would be a no go.

My only complaints with the New Horizons in the past has been the narrow body format and non-ducted air. They make a superaltive coach but for those two niggly little things. The a/c dumping out of a grill in one location is so "old school" and for those of us older folk, also a health risk.

Cedar Creeks are also a narrow body coach but have quite a few amenities including ducted air. Try them and see if they will make some changes for you.

Failing that, DRV products will make substantial changes to their rigs during construction and from all reports the costs of doing so are not prohibitive in comparison to initial outlay.

I would be very surprised if at least one manufacturer doesn't make an existing floorplan that will require you to make minimal compromise.

The same paragraph in the link by ML that mentions 102" width, also says "ducted air". FYI

There you have it! New Horizons have addressed both of those issues I mentioned in an earlier post.

I join with others in wholeheartedly recommending them and, as a matter of fact, will be looking seriously at them when it's time to replace our current rig. Their build quality and cabinetry are second to none.

Don't know about the other manufactors, but I do know Drv will do everything possible to build what you want. We just had a 2010 Mobile Suites built and Drv done all the changes we ask for. And I also know for a fact Drv builds a excellent 5th wheel. We are on our second Drv (Mobile Suites) and we now have what we should have bought many years ago. Most manufactors who use the cookie cutter method don't want to make changes they just want to put as many units out the door as possible. All we did was ask Drv to make the changes we wanted and they said we can do that and they did. Good Luck with your search. Another thing about Drv is when a unit is built its sold, that makes a difference. GBY.....
