Just call the citizen line for the DHS at 202-282-8000 and ask. If they are full of BS they'll get a call from someone at DHS trying to find out what they are doing. If it's BS then they won't do it again.

I am fairly sure it is all just a conspiracy. This could get interesting..........

Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?

Personally I wouldn't be worried about it. Just about everything someone might want is already online & anyone can find it. But we all worry about different things. So do what ever makes you comfortable but I'm sure it's nothing.
I would only worry if your license number is your social security number. That is how a lot of the older licenses numbers are here in Massachusetts. They only changed it here a fews years back.

Unlike some states, in Georgia, driver's license numbers and tag numbers are not public information. That 10-year-old kid down the street would have difficulty getting the information.

My last visit to my eye doctor they said they needed to make a copy of my driver's license because of "Homeland Security" requirements to verify my identity because of abuses by people using other peoples medical insurance cards. I told them that if they don't know me after 20 years going to this same doctor they need to get their eyes checked. Just went to my dentist for routine cleaning today and they didn't ask, they know me.

If I go somewhere that I am not known I will let them LOOK at my license to verify my name matches my credit card or check. NO, you can not copy it or write down the number or DOB.

I usually make up license plate numbers and if asked about Dr license I invent one of those also. Most places just want to fill a form so I help em.

Actually its not homeland secutiry its the FTC. Any business that does not recieve full payment at time of service, IE: they are considered a creditor is required to get photo ID. This includes doctor's dentist's etc.

The rule was designed to prevent ID theft and people racking up bills in other peoples names. One can google red flag rule ftc.
Fines can be as much as $3500 per case. So the Doc is just trying to comply with the law.

I am unclear why a campround would fit in this catagory, as you would pay for the service at the time. Unless they have extended it to all credit card users. which I doubt.

And PS the law says you have to maintain a copy of the drivers license from the patient if you are audited by the FTC to prove you are complying.

I really don't think this is a bog brother type of incident.

In MN hotels and motels are required to get names and addresses when you register and I believe Campgrounds are under the same requirement. I don't see any problem in showing ID. Since this is an RV Forum and there are very few Pedal Powered or horse powered RV's someone should have a license when you arrive. We ran into an issue with a camp host at a Forest Service Campground as she had to document our License plate numbers and we had a new TV with no plates. She was a litte befuddled til I showed her the plate on the trailer. That worked... If your that concerned about people knowing who you are or that you stayed somewhere maybe you shouldn't leave your house.... after you pry off the address numbers and knock down the street signs so they can't tell what your address is.
