Tex, well I think "I just watered myself is just too cute". Looks like a good natured baby.

You two are going to have such fun!! You should have set the timer and posed with Sirik on the steps of the new 5'r.

Glen, No, I got it at AK Recreation in Cleburne. I sytarted dealing with Marshalls at the RV show but Ron Simka at AK finally got under him about $3k and Marshalls wouldn't budge. It worked out great because Cleburne is 50 miles closer.

BJ, My digital camera while good at taking a photo and having it online 5 minutes later does not have a timer.

texatDurango,

Congratutations on your new rig. It looks great.
I enjoyed your photos. I liked the well made 5er tail gate on your truck. Could you give me information about it to look into one like it for my truck? I've not liked the latches I've seen - the latches on yours looks substantial.
Thanks

Tex
great looking setup. wishing you years of pleasure in it. i share your feelings about the postings on this site and the help it gives a lot of folks. unfortunately for me, i found the site after i ordered my new setup. i had a 25' TT that I "pulled" behind a 1/2 Ton Chevy 99 Silverado tow package 5.3 V8 3.73 Z71, etc. rated to tow 7500#. My loaded TT weighed in at 5900#.
Not near enough truck on grades of 4% or better. 2nd gear 4,000 rpms 45 mph. Exhausted by the time we got there. Decided to move up to 5er and more truck.
Bought a 2002 GMC 2500HD Dura/Allison just like yours except long bed and my fender flares are white instead of black. maybe that is how GM differentiates between Jimmy and Chev. We ordered a 20021/2 Cardinal 29WB. It left the factory last Tuesday and should be in Carson City any minute now. The Cardinal weighs in around 9100 dry with an alleged pin weight of 2070. I took the truck to the scales armed with all the info I have learned on this site. Much to my dismay, with a full tank of gas, the 5er hitch,
and me and the wife leaves me 2050 left on trucks 9200 GVWR for the pin weight. It appears I am 20# over. I guess I have a choice of less fuel or no wife to keep it under GVWR. It appears your rig handles your 5er rather well. What is pin weight on your 5er? Also does anyone remember a thread where it was discussed/determined what effect loading the 5er bay had on adding to the pin weight. I'm sort of concerned about the weight issue here but not going to lose too much sleep over it. When one invests as much as we did in this setup we are going with it. If you see a white Jimmy pulling a Cardinal in your mirrors on a downgrade and the jimmy's horn is honking like crazy, best to get out of the way.

UncleT, The best thing about your post was when you said “ I’m not going to lose too much sleep over it”.

I’ve adopted the same attitude. I think it is VERY important to look at all the numbers and make sure you have a safe, sound rig. But If I am within a hundred or so pounds of any limit I, like you, am not going to loose much sleep over it.

The 1970 lb pin weight of my trailer puts us within a few hundred pounds of our GVRW. Will it go over if we load the trailer too much? Probably, that’s why as I type this, my sweetie is out loading things in the trailer and is VERY weight conscious. We plan on traveling light, just the two of us so I don’t see any problems.

My truck quite easily pulled the trailer the other day into 20mph to 30mph gusty head winds and cross winds. The eight brakes (4 H/D disk brakes on the truck and 4 electric brakes on the trailer) very smoothly stopped me on a dime when I needed to (and once when I didn’t want to… don’t ever throw the manual lever of the Prodigy ALL the way to the left unless you are prepared to STOP!).

The more I get into these numbers, the more I do not trust what I see. When a manufacturer can publish a brochure then three months later publish another brochure with different capacities on the EXACT same truck…. Something is wrong and I don’t believe for a minute that a few hundred pounds one way or the other is that critical. If I don’t like what I see, I’ll wait for another brochure to come out!

We finally made reservations and will be down between San Antonio and New Braunfels in two weeks for our shakedown trip. I hope you enjoy your trailer and have many pleasant trips. The majority of your jitters will disappear the day you drive your trailer home.
