I've had a new-to-me 1994 Nomad 2515 LTD since February now. Its been great so far. I've actually had been living in it for a few months, but now it is parked.

It looks like the tires are the ORIGINAL tires, they look pretty old and they are the Goodyear Marathons, which have a really bad reputation for exploding.. I need to find new tires and have been searching the forums.. but most of the threads are for 16" or larger tire recommendations

My Nomad uses 205/75-15's Are there any good tires in that size? I think fully loaded weight is only 7500 lbs. This camper is a small 5th wheel.

TIA

I noticed the newer Marathons are no longer made in China... should they still be avoided?

Also, would there be any drawbacks to moving up to 225/75-15 tires? Maybe they are too wide to fit on the rims?

I've read SEVERAL reports of US made Marathons having problems. MAY be that they learned a trick or two from the Chinese that HAD been making them. Another vote here for the MAXXIS .....PROVIDED you get some NOT made in China.

I just changed to Maxxis from Duro tires,205-75-15 LRd's. They just listed them on their website about a month ago although they have always made them.
They were about 10 lbs heavier than the Duro's plus I could feel they were more sturdy.

BTW they were made in Thialand.

I went from 205's to 225's and it was a great move - especially since I tow our 22 foot 5th wheel with a F350.

I ended up with a couple of Denman tires and like them so far. They are load range E. Up a notch from the Marathons.

For that weight, a new set of 225/75 R 15 D Marathons should be fine for the next four years. I've had many Marathons on mid size 5th wheels and four years is about their life when not loaded past 2000-2100~~ lbs each. Some have been Chinese. I even have two 3.5 yr old Nankangs on our current 5th wheel that are ready to be replaced. Over 2k lbs each tire and I'd recommend upgrading to 16" LT's. Age and sitting too long will damage LT tires as well. I replace my truck tires at about four years as well due to hairline cracks from age. Just my humble opinion based on my experience with them.
