Wow Kirk. I wish I lived close to you when I have MH problems. There is NOBODY and I mean NOBODY near me in southern Kentucky that knows squat about motorhomes (If there are, I can't find them). Especially when it comes to the simplest servicing ie: change oil/lube like that. The local Ford dealership won't touch my E-450 with a 10 ft pole. Their excuse was "Our door is too small to fit your rv into our garage." Last time I checked, all one had to do was crawl under, drain oil change filter and bingo, you're done. That has promted me to become a weekend MH mechanic and I've learned a lot from guys like you on this site that actually care about the rest of us. Thanks for being there.

I will tell you what. I would rather buy a 1973 Ford with 20K miles that has been garage kept than one with 156K miles of road behind it. If it is a gas engine and getting close to 100K miles - leave it. If it is diesel with 100K miles look at it.

Shop, shop, shop. Don't fall in love with any one RV and make sure you get your money's worth when you buy. There will be repairs even if you buy brand new - there is no way of getting aournd it. You may need new tires, which you must factor into the purchase price and tires are $$$$! Take your time, learn everything you can and shop 'til you drop.

You can tell that from the color of the oil

That might be an indication on a gas engine unit, but not a diesel. Diesel oil will be jet black within a few hundred miles or less.

I ran into MANY people that bought their rv on a whim and were in it upside down and needed to get out of the payments but were stuck.

Too many people get "fixated" on being upside down!! It doesn't mean a thing until you want to sell or trade. We're probably upside down with ours, but neither my wife nor I care!! We have no plans, or need to trade or sell. It suits us just fine other than needing new tires, TranSynd fluid and filter change and engine oil and filter change this winter. Maybe I'll do a coat of Dry Wash N Guard too!
