I just fired up our new Garmin Nuvi 265 WT and thus far it seems great. I downloaded several POI's from the POIFACTORY.com such as the Walmart locations, state parks, diners, Offbeat things to see.

Seems to work like a charm. The Downloader loaded them right into the GPS instead of the SD card and they show up when I select the Extras under the Where To option.

What other POI's should I load? What POI's have you found to be helpful?

Would appreciate any and all suggestions.

Thanks, John S.

Hi John, paw through the catogories that are given and select what you want . I put in 98,000 points of interest and directed it to the SD card. 15.4 MB to a 4GB card. When loading you have the option to go to your Nuvi or card. I chose the card. Everytime you boot up your Nuvi it will ask you do you want to transfer from the card say no. I went to Canada with someone who had a GPS and they wanted something from Staples. He had put in all the Staples in the USA and Canada. Pick your medicine and enjoy ,

I've loaded the following: Trader Joes, McDonalds, Camping World, Good Sam parks, Rest Areas, Public Campgrounds East/Central/West, WalMart/Sams Club combined and Classical Music stations.

I used POIs extensively on my old Garmin i5, but with the touch screen typing feature it is so easy to find what you need I haven't bothered to load POIs on my new Garmin.

Jim, I have been disappointed at times trying to find something in the Garmin POI's using the spelling option. I feel they lack a lot of POI's. That is why I like to be able to add specific POI's.

I have my grandson push the buttons when any of us need or want to make a stop at important POI's like food, fuel, etc. and it works just as fast as pre-entering the data.

John I too have been looking at the nuvi 265wt then
I read something about one of the other ones they make and I can't make up my mind.
the other things are truck routes does yours have that?

I forget now what the more costly ones have that the 265 doesn't

I just didn't want to buy something and then find out for $10 more I could have gotten a much better one.

the gps i have now stops working when it gets hot I have it in shade even built a small sun shield over it I had to direct the airconditioner to blow on it before it would work for any amount of time it's a lowrance which is the type of radios I had in my airplane way back when.

Pete42, The 265WT works great thus far. synched up with my bluetooth cell phone without any problem. have not tested the traffic alerts yet. Does not have a truck setting that would be nice. I downloaded low clearance POI's so this might help. Good Luch

Had some good experience with our new Nuvi 265WT yesterday. We used the Nuvi for some hands free telephone conversation and even let the Nuvi do the dialing for us....

Also saw how the traffic alerts work as I got the red color showing traffic ahead. This was on I-90 going into the downtown area of Chicago so no big surprise there. The reroute option also seemed to work but I did not follow it as I only had a 1/2 mile more to go on I-90 and did not want to exit early.

But the nicest surprise was when my unit started giving me a "Bong-Bong" sound. I soon realized that I was passing near a low clearance bridge on North Avenue that was in my POI's I downloaded. Even though I was not driving on North Avenue (I-90 crossed over it) I still got the alert because I was within the 5000' that I had setup for the alerts.... That was real cool!!!!! :=))

So far, we are VERY HAPPY with the Nuvi 265WT as it also gives us the street names, etc...... A nice unit.
