I got on level ground let truck roll in neutral applied brakes manually it stopped the tow vehicle and camper so the trailer brakes were working without battery Your brakes will work fine under normal conditions BUT THEY WILL NOT WORK IF YOUR TRAILER BREAKS AWAY FROM THE TOW VEHICLE!
Think about it. If the trailer is disconnected, where will the brakes get power from?

It varies with the mfg. None of the 12 volt systems in our Newmar will work without a battery in place.

The battery acts as a sort of filter and a load for the output of the converter, (depending on the design of the converter). I would always have at least one in place. You could end up damaging some of the 12V stuff without it in place. Yes, it may work for a while (apart from the emergency brakes!!) but it may also shorten the life of some of your 12V components.

RV's are designed to operate off the battery with the converter acting primarily as a battery charger. Without a battery, the converter cannot supply enough amperage to run your furnace, refr, lights, etc. at the same time. We get many calls in the fall from folks that are having strange issues with their appliances. Usually a furnace short cycling or refr. mysteriously showing a check light(subsequently resets just fine!). Both are usually the result of a weak or dead battery and the converter not being able to keep up. A healthy battery and converter together can supply all the power your RV can ever need..

Yes, with a battery connected from the Truck you will have power. BUT THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AWAY is to stop the trailer in the event of a separation from the Tow Vehicle. Now you have a run away trailer with no way to stop it! That is reason for battery on the TT.

well I will say it has been very educational. I think the verdict is in "thou shall have battery on TT". although opinions have varied I can see the need for the battery. I thank you all for all your input mike
