I am going to look at a couple year old Bigfoot 1500 9.5SB this weekend - I never really contemplated getting new camper this big or this soon but this one caught my eye. Anyway, one of the must-have's for my next camper will be the ability to drop it at the site and use the truck for touring. How do the bigfoot's do off the truck? Does the unique construction add any problems here? I had a couple of older Bigfoot brochures in my library and not one of them mentioned anything about using it off the truck, as compared to Lance for instance that uses that as a selling point.
Anyone have any experience here? Thanks in advance - Vic

I've taken mine off many times when camping over the 9 years we've had it. Lowered down without any other support. Slightly rocky but ok.
When I need the truck I take the camper off with no support and sometimes with support. I do maintain my Happijac's....

I get a little nervous with the rocking motion with the camper only supported by the jacks. I also use a pair of 4x4's supported by those cheap jacks they sell in a 4 pack at Walmart. One across the front edge, one across the middle rear. More for peace of mind than anything else.

I have a 9.5 FS and I take it off at campgrounds allot. Just make sure you get it as low as possible as the lever theory applies.

I have 2004 1500 BF and use it off my truck all the time. My kids like to sleep in it when it gets hot out so they have the A/C. I have never used a support under it, I just lower it to the ground and use it. I enjoy my BF and would purchase another one in a heartbeat. I actually own 2 BFs and am looking at a used BF motorhome.

Is it Bigfoot campers that (can) give birth through the floor if you have an unsupported full water tank??

We have a 2500 and on any trip over two days in the same spot, we do a "saucer sep" and leave the camper back at the campground.
We have a sheet of 5/8" plywood in the bed of the truck as a riser (one contigous piece) and another 4x8 sheet cut into 4 equal sections.
We then use them as X supports and place the whole sheet on top. We lower the camper onto this "platform" and it rock steady.
Nice thing is the door is picnic table height so we don't even use the ladder.

youve been on this forum long enough to know the reported occurance was a rarity and has happened to other companies , on the happy side it is east to fix if it does happen to any camper and it is especialy easy on the Basement model Bigfoots because of the large access pannels on the bottom.

Are the X pieces also 5/8" ply; I like this idea because it doesn't take up any storage space. Do you think you could just use the X's without the top piece?

Great question as we use our Lance off the truck alot and want to be able to do the same thing with our next camper....which will most likely be a Bigfoot.
