For the past week we have been travelling in the motorhome. We
visited Pittsburgh for a few days to celebrate my mom’s 90th birthday and then headed south into West Virginia for an extremely relaxing stay at Stonewall Jackson Campground. This morning we departed West
Virginia and headed for a stop in Bedford, PA. Just 30 miles south of
Bedford we were involved in a motor vehicle accident while travelling
on I68. A car came up on the right side of us, struck our motorhome and then the car continued out of control passing in front of me and into the far left lane and finally crashing into a cement barrier. Then this car was struck by a car in the left lane. We managed to come to a stop and not strike anything, nor did anyone plow into the back of us. Those 2 cars are probably totaled and out damage is less than $2,000. Fortunately no one was injured, but the lady that caused the accident was frantic. We are able to drive the motorhome just fine and have stopped in Bedford, PA at Friendship Village CG as originally planned. We have not decided if we will cut our trip short and head home or continue with a stop in Lancaster. Right now we are both a bit shook up and going to take a walk now to see if that will relieve the stress.

PS....when a car srikes a motorhome you can hardly feel the bump but do hear the thud. The Brake Buddy in the car did an excellent job when it was necessary to make the emergency stop. Stonewall Jackson CG is awesome.....a solid 10. Frienship Village CG is nice...8+.

Bill glad you and Diana are OK.
Just keep going and enjoy your trip. After that you need to relax and unwind.

We are heading to Gulf Shores AL for the winter this year.
Spent last winter in Florida and Louisiana.

June of 2010 I have a Navy ship reunion in RI, so we will be traveling on the east coast for a while.

Do you still go south for the winter?

Take care.

Bill:

What a scare! Even seeing and passing a bad accident after it has happened unnerves us. To be involved I know makes you shakey. If you only have cosmetic damage why not try to shake it off and enjoy the rest of your trip.

It sounds like the other folks involved were very lucky to still be alive. How bad is your damage?

Bummer... I wouldn't cut your trip short... just make sure you have notified your insurance comapnay and pick-up a copy of the accident report... do you have names and insurance info of ALL involved vehichles. Ask your insurance if they want you to get an estimate now or wait until you get back home.

We know just how you feel. While on our hopefully not a once in a lifetime trip out west, we were in bumper to bumber traffic in San Fransisco when a young fellow decided to unpark his car into the middle lane where we were traveling. I barely felt a bump but the noise brought visions of major damage thus ending our trip. Fortunately there were no injuries, cosmetic damage to the MH but man it sure tore up the other car bad. I slowly got over my anger when SF's finest on foot patrol informed me that he saw it all & I wasn't at fault. That turned out to be of no help as SF, like most major cities won't allow their officers to file a report, much less testify in court.

My anger returned a couple weeks later, still enjoying our journey, when my insurance called me to tell me I was being sued! I can't say enough about Progressive in defending our case & keeping us from having to return to SF. We live in Va. The young man's father dropped the suit after being confronted with testimony from the driver of a parked car that was hit when the car finally bounced of my MH

DW still has trouble whenever a vehicle comes down a ramp, she saw the incident unfold at her feet.

It sure isn't fun, that's for sure.

Larry B......

So very good to hear from you. Hope all is well with Anne, you and your fur buddies. Last winter we missed wintering in Flordia but for this winter we have our reservation made for a 3 month stay at Olde Mill Stream CG in Umatilla. I would be anxious to hear your planned travel route when you head to RI. It would be so nice to see you guys again.

The damage to the MH is much less than I expected. When the woman hit us the thud was quite un-nerving. When I got out to see the damage it was not what I expected. There is one small 3 inch hole in the fiberglass on the right side near the bumper area. Also some long scratches in the paint and a large black rubber mark where here tire hit the MH.

The police wrote all the details for each of the drivers and gave each of us a copy with an accident report number. The police officer told me the accident report would read with the lady at fault. When I called the insurance company they asked for the accident report number and the police department that responded. Since it was the weekend the insurance company said a claims rep would call me Monday morning.

I'm glad that we keep the owners card and insurance card in the MH glove box along with a pencil and pad. When your all shook up it makes it real easy to find the info so easily.

In hindsight I should have taken some video or digital pics while the police where documenting the accident. While all the details were fresh in my mind I wrote everything down as soon as we got to the CG.

We were all so fortunate to not be seriously injured.
