Reg Cure is not free and it is impossible to remove from your computer. Try it and let me know if you were able uninstall the program.

There's a multitude of reasons for a slow machine. I use CCleaner and Malwarebytes, both free, for maintenance. If you haven't defragged in a while, that might help. Just some food for thought.

Lots of different reasons and some of them depend on circumstances. Registry cleaners can HELP but usually won't make a WORLD of difference. Viruses and add wear can slow down your computer also and removing them can also help. Using big beautiful photos on your desk top is nice but does take some memory and slow down loading. Uninstalling the ton of bloatwear that comes on most computers will also speed them up and cleanout out another ton of stuff put on your computer from web sites you visit is another help. Defraging your disk when it NEEDS IT can also help but you COULD just be short of RAM or have a slow processor. If those are the case the fix is to upgrade the ram or buy a faster processor (new computer).

How much RAM does this computer have? How much free space on the hard drive? How many applications do you tend to run simultaneously? Most 9-year old computers were not designed to run Windows XP. I still run Windows 2000 on my 9-year old laptop.

Assuming it was running OK when you upgraded to XP, I would suggest a format/reload. It's free and does an excellent job of clearing out old junk. Reinstall only the apps you really need. If you don't want to do that, then think about buying a new computer.

I'm with skipnchar on this one.

First remove all software you don't use. Then run the above mentioned utilities to remove any viruses or adware. Then defrag the HD.

How much ram do you have?

My guess is that you don't have enough. Win XP on a 9 yr old machine is really pushing it. The OS is using up most of your resources & taxing the processor. For example: How long does it take to boot up. My guess: 5 min or more. If so you have your answer. The processor & ram can't keep up with that monsterous OS.
