We're interested in hearing from Mobile Suite owners who tow with a single wheel pickup. We have been told we can tow with single wheel and other dealers tell us no, it must be a dually. If you are towinig a Mobile Suites fifth wheel with a single wheel vehicle, we would love to hear from you about performance, problems, etc. Thanks

Single wheel vehicles will not be able to handle the pin weight of the MS...MINIMUM 1-ton dually and YOU SHOULD HIGHLY CONSIDER GETTING A MEDIUM-DUTY TRUCK...

THEY are beautiful trailers but heavy...

I have weighed almost 1 hundred Mobile suites trailers and about 40% are being towed by single rear wheel trucks. Are they over the manufacturers listed max number for either axle or GVWR, yes, are they all broken down and sitting along side the roads somewhere, no. Would I suggest you have a dual wheel truck, absolutely. The pin weights are what is the killer, over 3,200lbs is normal, 4,000lbs is where most are when loaded to travel. Single rear wheel trucks are normally not able to handle those high numbers without over loading the tires or axle, but they do it all the time.

It depends on what length Suites you get. But we had a 2009 36 TK 3 and we had it hooked to a 2008 Chevy DRW's 4x4 C/C all options and we travel light no water except enough to flush the John. Out weight full of fuel ready to RV was 24,400 lbs we were over gross but not over on pin weight. I would recomend a DRW Truck. Good Luck on your choice the Suites are nice but very heavy, because of the materials used to build the Suites and it has a 15" frame and about the best R-factor in the industry. GBY....

What POSSIBLE difference would the name on the trailer make? go by the PIN weight of the trailer not the letters on the front cap.

The OP asked for Mobile Suite owners to respond and there are 2 or 3 fifth wheel manufactures that make their own frames and are far beyond other fifth wheel weights so on fifths such as Mobile Suite, New Horizon, Spacecraft & some models of Excel the name would give you an instant clue as to the fact it is one heavy PIN weight. Why try & make people feel they are asking or making dumb statements?

I think skip was just trying to get the OP to look at the greater picture of the numbers and capacity, not brand. In fact, it looks like the OP is looking for justification to exceed their tow ratings based on what other's do...

As with any brand and any TV you need to calculate the acual pin weight and match that against your TV manuf. published numbers.

Since when does it matter where you post, we are all RV'ers aren't we?

If you are looking fro justification to tow a trailer as large as a Mobil Suites with a SRW truck, you won't get it from me. You need a 1 ton dually as a minimum and possibly a larger truck due to the pin weight.

MS are heavy and need a big truck because ...

Little truck = little trailer
BIG trailer = BIG TRUCK.

Most dealers will tell you any thing to get a sale.

Went to the Canadian Mobile Suites rally in Kingston this past summer and most of the attendees had heavy trucks pulling their units. These are guys that are serious about towing and doing it right, they also put alot of miles on and they all upgraded from single and dual wheel trucks.
My buddy went from a single chev 2500hd with all the extras to help it with power and stopping as well as carrying the weight, to a singled out Volvo. this past summer we built him a deck to carry a Smart car and he is still well within the capacity of the truck and trailer combo.
They all feel much more comfortable with the heavier truck and now do not have to white knuckle drive their single and duallys.

There is a method to the madness, disturb the method and the madness begins.
