After moving my spare to a door mount, I decided to use the original spare storage space for my basement.
Now I can store those nice to have but hopefully never needed items like chains, etc.
More pictures and info on my blog.

Keith
The excellent adventures of Keith and Debbie. Observations about life, at home and on the road in our 2008 Sportsmobile Sprinter. (Warning: Occasional sharp turns to the right.)
I have seen the same spare tire space made into an enclosed box with a locking lid accessed inside the van. Not everyone is brave enough to cut a big door through the floor. It did look professional--might have been Sportsmobile or CMI that built it in.

Would make a terrific escape hatch if/when 'Street Tuffs' break into your CVC during your sleep mode...

I understand the feeling as I was wary when installing my 2nd battery box in the back of our LTV. But LTV has been creating a "basement" storage space since their first Sprinter conversion. It's one of the reasons we chose LTV for our Sprinter conversion. It does have a cover for the top not shown in this photo.
