Has anyone removed the heat shield aroung and used ceramic plug wires. the shields are a real pain to get off, any problems leaving them off?

We have the Jacob's plug wires on our M.H. and it still cooked wire on right rear.Fixed it by covering whole wire with heat resistant tubing. So far so good.

I too use the Jacob's ceramic boot plug wires. Have used them on the MH 454 Chevy engine for the past 30,000 miles with no problem. In fact, I just replaced all the plugs, ditributor cap & rotor...the plug wires looked to be in great shape.

I use the "Heat shields" with plain old "Borg Warner select" straight boots from Pep Boys and for years along with 15,000+ miles they still are in good shape......

Have Champion lifetime ceramic wire set on for over five year now and still no signs of any heat damage.

I agree the shields are a pain, i put new wires on in the spring and swapped all the heat shields from the old wires to the new wires, also put in a new dist cap & rotor, i have new ignition & brain module on my shopping list

Mine don't come off when changing the plugs and they don't get in the way.

Maybe just my GMT400 era 7.4L. I like Taylor spiral wound 'wire'

I used to and probably continue to check out new types of plugs, but
have always gone back to copper (non platinum) plugs and cut back the
ground electrode. Same or similar to indexing plugs, but no reduction
in CC volume
