We are trying to plan a beach trip in June of 2010. We have never camped on the panhandle side of Fl. We want to be beachfront campgrounds, but would also like to be able to use the golf cart. Cann anyone give us some suggestions. We have three girls, so kids are a factor. We have camped at myrtle beach several times and loved ocean lakes and lakewood. The better you offer, the easier it is for the DW!!!!
Thanks

Right on the beach would be Camping On The Gulf. Beach access can be found at Topsail Hill, Henderson Beach, Grayton Beach, and St Andrews state parks.

Camping on the Gulf in Destin, Florida is the only one I know of. It is very family-friendly and VERY expensive due to scarcity of beachfront property and Florida's excessive hospitality taxes. We have stayed there in the past and loved it. Be sure to eat at Gilligan's overlooking the harbor!

The campground is not right on the beach, but VERY close, so you might want to look at St. George Island State Park southwest of Tallahassee. Great white sand beaches, definitely off the beaten track, very "natural". No sewer hookups. I'll be there starting Saturday!

Working out of my roaming home office... (currently here)

Two state parks in the Port St Joe/Cape San Blas area also have sites next to the beach. They are sort of isolated in terms of shopping, dining etc, the state park on St George is very nice, within walking/biking distance of a beautiful beach. The island itself has shopping,dining,bike/scooter/kayak rentals, a rebuilt lighthouse you can climb up in, and is also close to Apalachicola with some very good dining, shopping, grocery, etc. (I live in the area!)

We go to WDW and stay at Ft Wilderness frequently but this summer we wanted to do something different. We went to Navarre Florida and stayed at the Emerald Beach RV Park. It has its own private beach and you can also drive about a mile to the Gulf Island National Seashore across a magnificent bridge to huge free public beaches that are as beautiful as I've ever seen. My wife and our grandson went to the beach every day while I played golf. I can't say enough good things about the beaches in this area. PS I rode my bike from the rv park every day across the bridge over to the beach area just for the exercise. It's a good workout if you're into that sort of thing.

Now this is probably going to be a silly question for the Florida regulars, but what area of Florida is considered the 'panhandle'?

When did Mobile Alabama become part of the Florida Panhandle?
