Take my word on this (or research it yourself): No Fram filter is built as well as a Wix filter. In fact, no Fram filter is built as well as a standard Wal-Mart Super Tech filter. It's one of those shocking things in life when you find out the best thing about a Fram filter is its advertising. Turns out you get to pay them now, AND pay them later.

Engines do not fail because of the wrong brand of oil that meets specs

They fail due to

1. The wrong GRADE of oil
2. Bad choice of oil filter
3. Infrequent oil changes

Talking of WalMart - I went to buy a side of frozen salmon - on the label it said "Made in China from Alaskan Salmon" - it's in the freezers of your local WM if you want to see for yourselves - go figure

In more than 44 years of driving..the ONLY filter I ever had any problem with was a WIX. Ive NEVER had a problem of any sort with a FRAM.

And since WalMart filters are like their motor oil and other products....made by different people on different years...how do you base the comment on that a Fram is no better than a Super Tech. Maybe some years...your correct...other years you might be dead wrong!

Wal-Mart's Super Tech is a Wix. Fram does nothing well.

By using this Link you can find out who is the maker of Walmart oil.

Go to the Walmart window and Type in Super Tech for oil.

That identifies the supplier who undertakes MSDS responsibility. It is not necessarily the manufacturer. During a 20 year period between the time our (major integrated oil) company shut down the refinery that housed our lubricants plant, and merged with another that had a lubes plant, we farmed out manufacturer to three different competitors, in succession, as those companies also went through their plant closures and mergers. All through that time, our company, as the brand owner, filed the MSDS for these products showing us as the supplier.

The lubricants industry is pretty convoluted. There are many more brands than there are suppliers, and even most majors don't make everything they put their name on for marketing. E.G. one poster listed Pennzoil and Quaker State as possible Walmart suppliers; those are no longer separate companies, they are brands owned by a third company that has other brands and multiple manufacturing facilities.

I think garry1p was just making a joke about the fact much at WM comes from China.

I am not sure anyone really knows the source of the crude in a quart of oil in most cases.

Funny thing about store brands, they are constantly changing manufacturers. Champion Labs used to make Super Tech filters, some say they still do. Champion Labs is owned by STP, which in turn is owned by First Brands which is just another name for Clorox and all their products.

Purolator makes Group 7 and Mighty filters, there is no way that they are of the same quality as Purlator's. The proof is in the fact with both of those you can crush the body of the filter with your bare hands.

The reason I point all this out is because you can't possibly believe you are getting a filter of Wix quality at a Super Tech price. Just because they make it, doesn't MEAN it is of the same quality.

People like to knock Fram filters, I guess because they are the big boy on the block. But, in all my years in the automotive industry, I only saw two oil filters that failed and neither of them were Fram.

You guys are unbelievable!!!! Next thing you'll be trying to make me believe is that Sears doesn't make Craftsman tools or Kenmore appliances.

Actually, Sears' Kenmore product line are made for them by different leading appliance manufacturers and branded with the Kenmore name.

Hand tools used to be made by Illinois Tool Co. Most of their power tools are made in China the last time I checked.

But, what the heck do I care? I haven't bought anything from Sears in years.
